Went to my local range today, crowded, cold, wind, etc. This guy next to me is shooting a nice bolt gun, a Browning w/Leupold, his 2 kids shooting .22's. I'm looking at the ground, start picking up brass. Picked up a blown case. Hmmm, .243. Looked down, another one blown, another, another. I look at his bench. a box of .243 ammo is sitting there.
I ask "sir what caliber are you shooting?" ".270" He replies. "Why?". I show him the brass, & point at the box of ammo on his bench. He FREAKS OUT, screams "Oh my God, I picked up the wrong ammo! Then slings the brass downrange! This guy had actually shot 17-18 rounds of .243 through a .270! I say "Bet your groups suck! [:D] "He then proceeds to go to truck, brings back .270 ammo, and says, "I'm gonna shoot one just to see if it's OK." I say "sir, you might want to take that rifle to a gunsmith & let him check it out 1st" He replies "Why? Do you REALLY think it is hurt?" I say "Maybe, maybe not" "I think it's time for us to thank God that neither of us has a piece of steel in our forehead."
He then goes and gets his .243 rifle and begins to shoot it. I pack up & leave, but I kept one for a souveneir!
