Not in .223 with a Scout scope... I looked and I was disappointed when I didn't find one. |

Savage made a Scout rifle at one time, might be able to find one used somewhere.

The Rem 788 is an excellent rifle. I have one in .243 and it is scary accurate. I don't think it would make a good "Scout" type rifle. The 788 is too heavy and there are no over the barrel mounts made for it. A Savage lightweight would work fine and B-Square makes a mount that attaches at the front receiver holes and the rear sight hole. If you don't have a rear sight, a gunsmith can drill and tap. This would be much cheaper than a custom mount. Savage doesn't offer the Scout any longer, but it was a 10FM with a detach mag, large bolt handle, B-Square Mount and a Williams receiver sight. I would pickup one of the new Savages with the Accu-Trigger and add the other parts. Brownells offers the large bolt handle, Savage carries the B-Square mount. You may have to have the barrel drilled and tapped for the sights. Just my .02. Geof |

I love the feel of the rifle but, I've had a hard time finding good prices. If I can't find a good price, what would be another one? I'm trying to go in with as many options as possible. Thanks for the help so far guys... |

I have a Remington 600 that I had rebarrelled into .233 by E. R. Shaw. Not really a scout rifle in my application, but a real tack driver. You might be able to build what you want from that.
2nd option find a Savage in .223 & cut it down.  |

I think that steyr is the most overpriced and overengineered POS on earth. Note the fact that they sold like a total of 17 or them. The remington model seven is a nice little gun. |

I think I've read somewhere before that the design of the Steyr Scout means it can't be rebarrelled whenever it's shot out either, or that it's a lot more difficult to rebarrel compared to something like a Remington/Winchester/Savage/etc. - something about the barrel being an integral part of the receiver. Probably won't matter to most owners, but it's something to consider.

I would call Ruger and buy one of their scout mounts for the compacts and just have a local guy do what ever drilling and tapping is required to mount it. It is made for the gun so it shouldn't be a big deal. |

Easily done. All you have to do is get a decent smith, or someone with a mill to drill and tap the barrel. Mark ETA:- I'd do it for you but I'm in the UK

I keep a Rem Model 7 in .223 handy. I know it's not Scout. But I like mine.
