I had a thought this evening (they do occur from time to time, but they cause this piercing pain right behind my eyes...)  Anyway, we've all been hearing (or saying) we should be launching missles or dropping bombs, sending in ground troops, even nukes.

What if we do none of the above?  I mean, all this will really do is make religious martyrs out of Bin Lardass and his merry band of men, plus any "collateral damage" that will inevitably occur.

What if these guys simply vanish?  Maybe a blood spot or two found; a tooth here, a fingernail there.  But no bodies.  And no witnesses.  And no trials.  No massive explosions, no extended firefights - just silence.

Who'd want to be a martyr for Allah if nobody knows what happened to you?  If it's fear you're after, what would be more effective?

Oh, and of course our government would "have no knowledge" of their whereabouts.  Who, us?

Like I said, just a thought.

Hmmm.  I like this idea.

But turning the desert into commuter parking for the much-overcrowded India would be much more satisfying.

Great idea! You volunteering?!!

What I wonder is what happens to the bunch they've arrested in the US? Doubt they'll have much to hold them on unless they talk but it seems that at least some are in this up to their eyeballs. What do we do? Let them go? I've already been called a Nazi, supporter of genocide, etc so...ideas?

Interesting idea.

I am of the opinion that we should not have released the names and pictures of the known hijackers. Never. Just to see what would happen overseas.

Now they are martyrs for their cause.

Sure, if they'll take an overweight 39 year-old with really bad eyes.

Let 'em go...and then they vanish.

It's war.  They started it.  As Mr. Bush said, it will end in a way and at a time of OUR choosing.

Yes, this will be a war best fought by spec ops.

Disappearances were what the SEAL/PRU teams in the Delta and the Rung Sat specialiszed in during 1968-72.  3/4ths of the people they went after were taken alive, but none the less this is the source of the the stories about CIA "assination teams" run by the Phoenix Program. They were doing such a good job that the VC had their operatives in the US spread these stories which were gobbled up by the media. (Although I cant vouch for their life expectancy AFTER we turned them over to the National Police)

We used to be very good at this, but after Nam the liberals refused to let us practice this, cause it can get very unsavory if something goes wrong and the snatch team is compromised. Being compromised usually results in a gunfight in someones house, in a village, with all the women and children around.  They didnt want Regan, who had a personal attraction to such operations, from having the tools with which to pull such ops.

The British still get constant practice at this, just this year the SBS snatched one of Slobidan Milosovich's henchmen right out of Yugoslavia.  We will probably have to borrow their skills for a while in order to relearn this art.
