Does anybody know which is the best portable police scanner to purchase.  Would like to cover as many police, fire, emergency type channels as possible.  Thanks.

... look for a PRO62 Triple Conversion Hyperscan. They are "bullet proof".

Mine slid out the window of my truck (dash)going around a corner @ 15 mph (Doah!) once and when I went back for it it was still squaking away.

I have a 1.3 Ghz as well but it isn't as robust or clear.

Where can I get one, do they have a web site?  Thanks.

Try GroveENT.com  I thinks that's it. Scanner and Shortwave oriented store in Brasstown NC. They have the latest scanners at a good price. You can call them for advice.

Not sure Pro62 is a current scanner though. Bearcat BC3000xlt is a good handheld. Other models make great desktop. Trunking is important these days and they have these as well.

Whatever you get, make sure it's a preban model.

"A PREBAN model??!"

Yes, a preban model.  The government disallowed scanners from picking up certain frequencies that are used by cordless and cellular phones in the mid-90's.  Some PD's immedately switched to these freqs.  Thus, a modern US scanner can't pick 'em up.

So, spend the money and find an early pre-ECPA scanner.  You'll thank yourself later.
