I'm 31 years old, and ever since I could turn my first wrench, I cannot get the smell of gas off my hands.

I am restoring an old motorcycle, and flushing the tank tonight, and I got gas on my hands.

You got any tips or tricks? I have tried running them around the stainless steel sink to no avail. Used fruity soap, dawn soap. The only thing that works is to spray your hands off with carb cleaner, then wash your hands. This is not to good for ya, but it works.

Wiser men of Arfcomm help me.

When your hands smell of gas,  go take a dump and don't use any TP when you wipe.

Now your hands won't smell like gas anymore!

Try rubbing them with diesel fuel.

though that does lose you some valuable points in my "coolest woman of the internet" contest, which i know means so much to you.  Though you did have the B answer... for the A the correct answer is "i cook and play with cars in equal amounts"... you know, for future reference.

Yep diesel works wonders!

Does anybody know how to get rid of the diesel smell on my hands?

I mix up Ajax and Lava soap and sometimes that orange gritty soap with really hot water and use an old sink scrubber and it works sometimes.

OC pepper spray. Your hands might still smell like gas but you won't be worrying about it or putting them up to your nose.

Bit of Brake cleaner, [non chlorinated] Orange hand cleaner, then comet cleanser. You'll need to put some type of hand lotion on afterwards as it will strip all the oils off your skin.

1. Apply generous amounts of hand lotion before working on vehicle.

2. Avoid allowing gasoline to come into contact with your skin.

3. Waterless hand cleaner or Dawn dishwashing liquid to clean up later.

You can't really remove gasoline because it soaks into your skin.  It evaporates eventually.

Now that is an excellent idea!

However, I have to agree with the earlier suggestion of Gojo hand cleaner. Get the orange flavored stuff so that you can post up later asking how to get the orange smell off your hands. That stuff will cover most smells known to mankind.

Seconds on the lanolin soap.

You need something that's a fat or wax type thing to get it off.

You could try rubbing your hands with a candle or something, I guess.

Other than that, try a liquid soap, and rub it on your hands and let it sit for a minute before you add water.  That'll give the soap molecules time to pull up some of the gas molecules.

+1 for gloves.

To get it off, clean motor oil (just a little) and then wash with your fav orange cleaner. This works, had an old shop teacher show me that trick.

The purell-type hand sanitizer stuff which is alcohol based seems to work well for me.  I keep a little bottle in my car, seems to work better the less time since exposure.  Scrub with lava soap or some abrasive-type hand cleaner afterwards.
