I have been thinking, with all the BS on "domestic spying" which does not grab me as domestic in nature.  Do you think that it would be feesable for the FBI/DHS to hire private contractor "volunteers" to spy on suspected domestic terrorists?  They could be provided equipment and training and only tip off the FBI.  They would have no court worthy evidence, but the FBI can use it to conduct their own investigation.  Granted, this would be borderline legal to completely illegal for the actual spies.  For the gov't...plausable deniability.

If I was Jack Bauer, I would hire myself some black-ops Americans.

Just my late night imagination at work.

I'm sure its at least occured to some fed employee.

But if they were going to do that, I don't think they'd bother to hire someone else.  I think they'd just do it.

I know it would be a huge political nightmare and a very bad extension of big brother.  Especially during the wrong administration.  But I wonder if you were approached by someone and given $10k to monitor a Muslim foreign-born neighbor with surviellence equipment, would you?

I'd use all the high tech doo-dads to make wicked cool cutting edge porn, then report back, "Naw, they didn't do anything suspicious."

Already done. Since the feds are prohibited from holding large databases, they buy access to the same databases credit companies and telemarketers use.
