HDMI is transmitting nothing but 1's and 0's. Dont buy into the Monster Cable hype. Check out avsforums.com. |

Cheap cables at www.bluejeanscable.com/ or www.monoprice.com/home/index.asp. Monster, or even the 'cheap' brands at BB or whatnot are wickedly overpriced.

I laugh my ass off when I see gold plated phone and cat5 cables...
Total fucking ripoff.... Same with overpriced speaker wire... Get some zip cord and be done with it..you will not hear the difference. |

I was at BB the other day buying an optical cable to connect the new DVD to the receiver. The little dweeb tried to tell me the monster optical cable at $80 was better than the el-cheapo optical cable at $29 because it has "better RF shielding".
I couldn't convince the little dweeb of just how stupid that sounded. |

Gold plating is not unreasonable. It DOES offer significant corrosion protection.
There IS a very good reason why you will almost never see a connector of any kind on a computer that isn't gold plated. But otherwise....bits is bits. If the connection is good and the cable is truly able to handle the required bandwidth without exceeding the crosstalk and attentuation specs, there really should be no advantage to a more expensive cable unless you're the guy who's selling it and pocketing the larger profit margin. And incidentally, in the audiophile/videophile circles, Monster Cable is considered to be very "entry level". CJ |
