If it didn't I'd be worried. They won't run long without oil.
Is it a base gasket leaking? The rear jug base gasket usually leaks, so I'm told, if you don't let the bike warm up properly before you put the engine under load.
Hard to tell by the pic where the oil may be coming from. Take a look at the clutch cable housing where it enters the tranny side cover (I am assuming you have a manual clutch.) There is an o-ring on it and the cable housing becomes loose over time. A simple twist with a wrench would fix that.
Also, if your breather system has been modified with a hose running from the heads down under the engine, see if you are getting a few drops off of that. On some of the big-bore and stroker kits the installers put in a hose running under the bike with a filter on the end of it to prevent oil blowing out the air cleaner. Also, look at the tranny drain plug for a leak. If it does, pull it and replace its o-ring, along with the tranny lube. |

Thats how you know it's full.
If it ever stops leaking, add oil, you are empty. |
why does this suprise you? and that is not a leak. If you think that is an oil leak, then.......ahh never mind. i wont feed the fire.
That's the wrong way to look at it.
Your oil stain has a Harley on top of it. That's a good thing. |
I'm going to take a wild guess that this is an Evolution or a Revolution engine and not a Shovel Head, Pan Head, or Knuckle Head we're talking about.
If it's Evolution, it's mechanic time. If it's REVOLUTION, you can start freaking out about now... Of it's a Shovel, Pan, or Knuckle, get some kitty litter and stop whining. |
What do Harleys and puppies have in common?
They both leak every time they stop somewhere, and they're both happiest in the back of a truck.... |
TC88. Looks like the bottom pan gasket from wha tI can see. |

Now long ago a Harley rider told me that they were designed to leak to keep the chain oiled.
The older ones were. |
You what they say about Blondes and Harleys.........................
After you ride them for an hour, they drip for an hour..................... |
P08
Goober, that's true. It's a "drip" system that lubes directly on the chain and the amount is adjustable. I've got a '65 Pan that uses this system. cc |
No probably they do that.
Some people think it's big deal, you know the one that keep the plastic on their sofas. |
[hippie] it's just giving the oil back to mother earth from whence it came, man [/hippie]
Oil drips like rain. Start at the top and work your way down. I just replaced my rocker box seals on a TC 88. I didn't notice the leak. The dealer spotted it during an oil change. Take a look at the rear cylinder, just where the rocker box meets the jug. BTW, your bike is just marking its spot!!! |

I always thought that if you repeatedly poured oil on your garage floor you will eventually grow a Harley.
Im gonna have to take the pipes off and a side cover to source the leak.
true and believe it or not so was the original Honda SOHC cb750s. they had a little screw that could be adjusted above the drive sprocket on the tranny to allow oil to slowly drip on the chain. as for the TC88 well its a Harley. $$$ but still not in Honda/yamaha/kawasaki/suzuki league when it comes to build quality. |

Some of these responses are fucking great!
Evos and your twin cam shouldn't leak, though. Just figure out where it's coming from, and take care of it. My Yamaha Virago (first bike) leaked oil worse than my Harley does. |

Dear Abby,
I've never written to you before, but I really need your advice on what could be a crucial decision. I've suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me. The usual signs...phone rings, but if I answer, the caller hangs up. My wife has been going out with the girls a lot recently, although when I ask their names she always says, "Just some friends from work, you don't know them." I sometimes stay awake to look out for her cab coming home, but she always comes walking up the drive as I hear the sound of a car leaving, around the corner, as if she has gotten out and walked the rest of the way. Why? Maybe she wasn't in a taxi at all? I once picked up her cell phone, just to see what time it was. This caused her to go completely berserk. She quickly snatched the phone out of my hand and cursed me hysteri- cally, screaming that I should never touch her personal property, then accused me of trying to spy on her. Anyway, I have never broached the subject with my wife. I think deep down I just didn't want to know the truth, but last night she went out again and I decided to really check on her. I decided I was going to park my Harley Davidson Lowrider next to the garage and then hide behind it so I could get a good view of the street around the corner when she came home. It was at that moment, crouching behind my motorcycle that I noticed a small amount of motor oil leaking through the gasket between the rear head and rocker arm cover. So... is this something I can easily repair myself or do you think I should take it back to the dealer? |

Know why the British don't build computers? They couldn't figure out how to make 'em leak oil! |

[sarcasm on]......Well, isn't that unique!? .............[sarcasm off] |

What a POS.
I have a 6 year old KLR650 with 30,000 miles. It has been beat to hell over those six years - dropped countless times in the dirt and been in two wrecks on the street. I paid just over $4,000 for it new. It has never leaked a drop. |

Had to laugh when I saw this thread. I read it in anticipation of the replies that I knew were coming.
As one who once purchased a brand new 1974 Sportster, I know about oil leaks. I never worried about it. |
Not trying to be a smartass here, but I thought all Harleys did that.
I thought harleys were notorious for leaking oil!
Try owning a 35 year old Porsche! The old saying is 'It doesn't leak oil, it MARKS IT'S TERRITORY!' |

Good for you. Hot babes are lining up to feel that Kawasaki vibe too, correct? |
