Damn! I went on a nice ride through the desert today. I go out to the garage to check something and see these drops of oil under the bike.

Probably a simple fix.

A Harley with an oil leak?

just funnin' with ya - hopefully it's something simple like jsut replacing a gasket.

If it didn't I'd be worried. They won't run long without oil.

Is it a base gasket leaking? The rear jug base gasket usually leaks, so I'm told, if you don't let the bike warm up properly before you put the engine under load.

Hard to tell by the pic where the oil may be coming from.  Take a look at the clutch cable housing where it enters the tranny side cover (I am assuming you have a manual clutch.)  There is an o-ring on it and the cable housing becomes loose over time.  A simple twist with a wrench would fix that.

Also, if your breather system has been modified with a hose running from the heads down under the engine, see if you are getting a few drops off of that.  On some of the big-bore and stroker kits the installers put in a hose running under the bike with a filter on the end of it to prevent oil blowing out the air cleaner.

Also, look at the tranny drain plug for a leak.  If it does, pull it and replace its o-ring, along with the tranny lube.

Thats how you know it's full.
If it ever stops leaking, add oil, you are empty.

That's the wrong way to look at it.

I'm going to take a wild guess that this is an Evolution or a Revolution engine and not a Shovel Head, Pan Head, or Knuckle Head we're talking about.

If it's Evolution, it's mechanic time. If it's REVOLUTION, you can start freaking out about now...

Of it's a Shovel, Pan, or Knuckle, get some kitty litter and stop whining.

What do Harleys and puppies have in common?
They both leak every time they stop somewhere, and they're both happiest in the back of a truck....

Goober, that's true. It's a "drip" system that lubes directly on the chain and the amount is adjustable.

I've got a '65 Pan that uses this system.

Oil drips like rain.  Start at the top and work your way down.  I just replaced my rocker box seals on a TC 88.  I didn't notice the leak. The dealer spotted it during an oil change.

Take a look at the rear cylinder, just where the rocker box meets the jug.

BTW, your bike is just marking its spot!!!

true and believe it or not so was the original Honda SOHC cb750s. they had a little screw that could be adjusted above the drive sprocket on the tranny  to allow oil to slowly drip on the chain.

as for the TC88 well its a Harley. $$$ but still not in Honda/yamaha/kawasaki/suzuki league when it comes to build quality.

Some of these responses are fucking great!

Evos and your twin cam shouldn't leak, though. Just figure out where it's coming from, and take care of it.

My Yamaha Virago (first bike) leaked oil worse than my Harley does.

Dear Abby,

I've never written to you before, but I really need your
advice on what could be a crucial decision.

I've suspected for some time now that my wife has been
cheating on me. The usual signs...phone rings, but if I
answer, the caller hangs up. My wife has been going out
with the girls a lot recently, although when I ask their
names she always says, "Just some friends from work, you
don't know them."

I sometimes stay awake to look out for her cab coming home,
but she always comes walking up the drive as I hear the
sound of a car leaving, around the corner, as if she has
gotten out and walked the rest of the way. Why? Maybe she
wasn't in a taxi at all?

I once picked up her cell phone, just to see what time it
was. This caused her to go completely berserk. She quickly
snatched the phone out of my hand and cursed me hysteri-
cally, screaming that I should never touch her personal
property, then accused me of trying to spy on her.

Anyway, I have never broached the subject with my wife. I
think deep down I just didn't want to know the truth, but
last night she went out again and I decided to really check
on her. I decided I was going to park my Harley Davidson
Lowrider next to the garage and then hide behind it so I
could get a good view of the street around the corner when
she came home. It was at that moment, crouching behind my
motorcycle that I noticed a small amount of motor oil
leaking through the gasket between the rear head and rocker
arm cover.

So... is this something I can easily repair myself or do you
think I should take it back to the dealer?

What a POS.

I have a 6 year old KLR650 with 30,000 miles.  It has been beat to hell over those six years - dropped countless times in the dirt and been in two wrecks on the street.  I paid just over $4,000 for it new.  It has never leaked a drop.

Hot babes?  Are you serious?  You consider Biker Bitches hot babes?

You ride an over-priced, oil leaking, 700 pound POS to attract "women" like this?

Paying $15,000 or higher to attract these kind of women is not what my idea of what motorcycling is about.  You can keep the fat ass cheeks and chaps that show them off all to yourself.  I'll pass, thank you.
