Recent relocate to the Peoples Republic of Madison...it's pretty anti-gun 'round here. Seems like the hunters I've met have no love of the "black freedom rifle".

Elm Grove here. (just west of Milwaukee). Have several ARs including a new custom Tromix upper in 50AE that I have not had a chace to shoot yet. I belong to to the Daniel Boone club and they have 4 or 5 AR matches a year. At 50 meters you shoot both metalic sillouets (spelling?) AND running deer. The total score is the number of of targets you knock down and the total number of holes in the paper pieplate on the running deer. Th best score I have seen is about 15 or 16 (out of a 30 round mag). Of course this all takes place over 20 or 30 seconds. The club has a web site at WWW.dbcl.org for anyone that might want to see when a match might be held. It only costs 2 or 3 dollars per entry and you can reenter as many times as you want. Also you don't need a AR to shoot the match, I have seen Ruger ranch rifles M1 carbines, M1As and even a Ruger 10/22 once. Just about any kind of semiauto can be used but you can only use the ammo from one clip. So most people use thiry round clips in the ARs.

I'm currently living near Madison WI now, but PRK is where I'm originaly from. I've only been here since Christmas... and I cant wait to go back home to California. Seriously. I thought it would be cool to be in a place that still allows black rifles. But the trade-off isnt worth it to me. It may be cheaper to live here too... but live and do what? Rot to death in boredom. I miss CA even though I hate the laws.

Probably 3/4 of everyone that bashes CA & its laws are probably jealous they dont live there. CA may have restrictive gun laws... but I've encountered some bass-ackward sh*t in WI. Like not being able to hunt with a crossbow unless you are handicaped?!? And driving through a yellow light is the same as going through a red one. I also really dont like the fact that my car is already becoming a rust bucket.

Jeeper21- If you're bored in Madison, you're not trying hard enough! ;) I've been all over the country and to some parts of the world. The only place I would want to live is in the Badger state (with the exception of Montana.

If you think the Mad City is boring? Try Grand Forks, ND. IT'S TORTURE!!!!!

bobr,
I have talked to Scott, the cop in deerfield that is opening up the range, but as of yet he didn't have a price structure set up. For some reason I think I'll be a premiere member. I belong to the Deerfield range now, so a short ride into town sounds ok. I miss H&H range in OK City, well run and set up, about 25 stations.
