I am now hearing from my family in West PA, and news sources from that area that the plane that crashed in Somerset county was heading for Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant.

It's not over, either.

Is it time to place SAM's near nuke facilities?

Forgive my ignorance on the topic, but isn't Three Mile Island deactivated?

Whether it is or not, what kind of damage would that kind of attack cause?

Hogwash.  That plane left Newark bound for California.  Three Mile Island is near Harrisburgh.  Look at a map.  The fucking plane flew RIGHT FUCKING PAST Three Mile Island headed west and just kept going.  Wherever it may have been headed, I think we can set that asinine rumor aside.

Even if it were true, 3mi. Is. would make a lousy target.

Nuclear power plants are supposed to be able to withstand a plane crash without becoming compromised (leaking radiation). Surely they knew that and were targeting something else.

More likely it was Camp David.  I hear it was a shootdown, not sure of the validity of that rumor.
