A good two stage can give you an advantage
(short,light second stage) in offhand shooting. |

The theory is that you pull the first stage until you feel the second lighter stage - at this point you can hold or add a tad of pressure and you'll get the surprise break (a good thing) and the shot goes off.

In CMP service rifle competition, the trigger must be at least 4.5 lbs pull. A 2-stage is a must, because most of the weight can be set on the first stage take-up, with an extremely crisp 1 pound final stage. It will pick up 4.5 lbs, but feels like a 1 lb.
For varmint or "tactical" apps, it is strictly user preference. I love 2-stages on my CMP legal ARS, but I have light single-stages on my bolt guns and hunting rifles. YMMV fixed typos. |
