I asked about this nearly a year ago on the old AR15.com site and received some excellent and helpful responses, but since that time I've had a computer crash that destroyed my files (Have since come to take back up files seriously). Specifically, I would like to know how the conversions were done and what problems may arise. Any input would be appreciated.

A good source of information is the book " PROUD PROMISE : French autoloading rifles 1889-1979, by Jean Huon ". He goes into detail on the real French 308 conversions. My advice from shooting the Importer conversions is to avoid them and stick to the 7.5 MAS chambering. Import 308 conversions....... Unreliable and questionably safe ! all the conversions I've seen use a bushed chamber insert to make up the cart length difference. Someone said they shortened the barrels the last time this came up but that is not what I have seen, that would be to expensive for ceap skates like CENTURY ARMS to do !!!

That would be me. I have worked on or sold about 25 of the Century 308 rifles. All had the BBL's shortened, rethreaded, and chambers recut to 308. Century is doing the same to the MAS 36 rifles (I've sold 4 of these).I have never seen any with a chamber adapter.

I had heard the .308 doesn't have the power to cycle the 7.5mm bolt. Who wants a French gun anyway?
