LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A gunman opened fire on his ex-girlfriend and
several other people at a suburban Los Angeles area home on Wednesday, killing the woman, a man and a 12-year-old child and wounding three teenagers, authorities said Among those wounded in the 6:30 p.m. EDT rampage was a 19-year-old girl who was in critical condition and undergoing surgery at the nearby Simi Valley Hospital, spokeswoman Alicia Gonzalez said. A 16-year-old boy was also taken to the hospital suffering from gunshot wounds and was listed in stable condition, Gonzalez said. An 18-year-old boy was injured after he jumped from a second-story window when the shooting started, Los Robles Hospital spokeswoman Kris Carraway-Bowman said. She said the boy, Rafael Calderone, would be treated for a broken wrist and injuries to his feet and
likely would be released. ``We were told that he was in the house and the reason for his injuries is that he jumped from a second story window,'' Carraway-Bowman said. A police spokesman said officers arrived at a house in an upscale neighborhood and found ``multiple victims'' of gunshots. He said he had no information on the circumstances of the shooting and would not identify the victims.
``The officers when they got here found numerous victims down at various locations but mostly confined in the residence,'' Lt. Rex Jones said. Jones said the suspected shooter was not in custody and was reportedly seen driving away in a blue sports utility vehicle. Sources close to the situation said the suspect was believed to be the ex-boyfriend of one of the victims. The shooting comes less than a week after a former police officer wanted on weapons charges barricaded himself in his home in a different Los Angeles suburb and kept authorities at bay for several hours after killing a sheriff's deputy. That suspect, James Allen Beck, was found dead inside his home after it burned to the ground in a fire that may have been started by tear gas grenades.

If you saw this guy running around your neighborhood after hearing a lot of shots,  dressed like this, with an AR, would you figure him for LEO?

Have you noticed that when a gun is used in a crime, there is no delay in saying so. But the case in Iowa where six people were knifed and beaten with a hammer, they could not disclose right away pending investigation. Bias! NA!

Interestingly enough, I had heard that Simi Valley (where this shooting occurred) is one of the few shall-issue (CCW) towns in CA.  California as we all know is an almost-never issue state, but discrection goes to the police chief.  In Simi Valley, last I heard, the chief of police was a pretty nice guy.  Can anyone verify this?

Also, I read another article of this same account at www.channel2000.com.  The url is:
http://www.channel2000.com/sh/news/stories/nat-news-94743520010905-190918.html.  Note at the end of the article that Simi Valley is one of the safest cities in the US!

I guess it goes to show that bad things can happen even when good policies regarding self defense are in place.  But at least they happen less often.

Not unless I saw what appears to be a badge on his left collar bone area.

Not that easy to spot.  And don't expect the citizens to notice the color coordination.  Maybe they think you & your buds in the back are just really close friends.
Hey, at least he's following two big safety rules.

It's crappy reporting like that that gives people the wrong impression.
Simi Valley is not in the city of Los Angeles or in Los Angeles county. It is a city in Ventura County. There is a difference between the two even though Ventura county boarders Simi Valley.
