What lens were you using for most of those shots?
I'm going to Alaska in 2 weeks, and I'm taking a 28-75mm 2.8 and a 70-300mm 4-5.6. The telezoom isn't fantastic, but should be alright. Some of your wildlife shots are really great, either you got super close or you have a huge lens! Shawn |

I used a Canon 5D and a Canon 30D. Most of the wildlife shots were with the 30D to take advantage of its 1.6x crop factor. I believe all the wildlife shots except the Dall Sheep were with my Canon 100-400 f4.5-5.6L IS lens. The Dall Sheep were far away enough that I used my Canon 300mm f2.8L IS with a 2x teleconverter. |

You certainly did yourself proud with those photos. Looks like you had a good trip. There aren't that many clear weather days on McKinley, you got a little lucky with that one.

Yeah, the weather stayed clear all the way out to Wonder Lake. The bus driver said it's the 14th time in 17 years he's had McKinley stay clear all the way out to the Lake (it's like a 5 hour drive.) |

Expensive in some ways, for one. Limited access & few ameneties compared to city-livin', but if you are into your own thing & don't mind living in relatively more isolated conditions (depending on where you chose to live), it could be your thing. Beautiful is just a word. Those postcards pics of blue ice floes & glaciers really are that blue in person. Find something in your job sector & you could do it. Turns out, AK has the greatest number of motorcyclists per-capita in the U.S. Sewerd HWY is one hell of a road, whether your on a cruiser or sportbike. Yes, I think about it, too. |

BTW, I am DEFINITELY going back next year. Wanna try July this time to try to avoid the onset of the really rainy season and do some backcountry camping this time.

Asked him if he knew what he was getting into....Expect -50 temps...... Yeah, he lives for winter camping and the isolation. He expected to be out there for 3 weeks. |
