I posted this some time back. Here is the info again.
This is only for Non-Prior service enlistees! This means you have never been in the military. You will go to bootcamp and follow on A-school (military occupational specialty), then you will go home and do the one weekend a month deal with your local Navy-Marine Corps reserve center etc.. for this the enlistment currently has a $20K lump sum enlistment bonus The program is called NPSB (non-prior service basic). Bootcamp is 9 weeks. Your follow on A-school training can range from 7 weeks to possibly 17 weeks depending on which rating you choose. The types of jobs currently available to the best of my knowledge: MA - Master-at-Arms (Navy military police) HM - Hospital Corpsman (Navy medical/dental field) IS - Intelligence Specialist CB's - Construction Battalions (from electricians to drywall to heavy equipment) and I saw only once MM - Machinest mate ..however not 100% sure |
IS is the shit.....its a really cool rating. Especially for the reserves, they write their own orders.
Hmm, Navy.
That involves, like, ships, water, oceans, water everywhere and no land, swimming, seasickness, and saltwater. Right? |
What do they have to offer a prior service ARMY medic?...( assigned to a line company, not some pussy TMC or Hospital).
YES, and all of those job required prior "life experience" according to the recruiter that I talked to.
Will the Navy train for these jobs? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Screw the Navy. |
Damn, SK's cruisin around in a Humvee..................who would have thunk it
IYAOYAS!! |
NO, No, that is absolutely wrong. These jobs are available to anyone who is mentally, morally and physically qualified. This program was not available until last year. |
i'm used to seeing them in golf carts, or maybe thats another rate
AO here too |
what, thats a load. Talk to a different recruiter. And score high on your asvab. |
I scored within the top 99% of the asvab and was told that without civy experience that I was SOL. I asked him how in the hell you are supposed to get "intel" experience. His answer "I've been asking that question myself". This was 2 months ago. |
Now for regular reserves, we take prior enlisted or civilians with life experience. True example: U.S. Customs type joined up for an edge on promotion LEO's can come into the Navy reserve never having served in the military at all so long as they can complete a modified 17 day bootcamp within 1 year IIRC. Same thing with people in the construction field or LVN's/ RN's with verifiable experience. |
Okay he is talking about joining the reserves without going to regular bootcamp as a recruit for 9 weeks in Great Lakes, IL. You need civilian or other service experience for that. The intel job requires unique qualifications if you are trying to bypass the regular recruit experience. |
everything |
WHAT? |
If you're asking about corpsmen..well then the answer is yes. I've been told that the corpsman job field is closed to females till further notice. Don't go quoting me either. |
No, a full fledged MD. No prior service just a burning desire to do his part. |
You need to speak with an officer recruiter. It doesn't hurt to ask. Call the local recruiting command headquaters and speak directly with a full-time officer recruiter. Recruiter-canvassers like myself are in the field finding young men and women to enlist with an officer referral here and there. I assist in weeding out those that are unqalified for officer positions. With only a handful of officer recruiters in my area field recruiters are relied on in this manner. I can get you the direct number for your area. |

+1 info please. Prior Navy service. |
All of the above noted ratings will serve tours in the sand pile.
It's not just LEO's. It's construction types too etc... You will need to complete a modified 17 day bootcamp within 1 year. Some of the reservist has reported that this modified bootcamp can be going away. I met a lady who is 39 years old, son was a high school senior last year and she joined the Navy reserve. She attended the modified bootcamp and gave us a report on it. She said it wasn't long enough and some people aren't motivated because they are older. If you are prior service you just process into the reserves. For example you are 43 and had served 4 years of active duty, well now you have a computed age of 39 years old. |
or elsewhere reservist are pulling duty everywhere |
Why were you, an FC cleaning an operations department, OC division compartment? Did the FCs share that coop with the radio girls and skivvy wavers? |
I know...but I'm letting all of our fellow posters know that the noted ratings are especially needed in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere that our trigger pullers are serving. Yes, they will also served around the world ashore and at sea (except for the SeaBees) but the reason for the extraordinary bonuses is because of the requirements in theater. |
That wasn't me. That was a kid off the Navy NewsStand website. www.navy.mil/view_single.asp?id=33724 |
Oookay then. I get it now! For a sec, I thought you were headed over to the dark side or something! |
50? How dumb do you have to be to get a 50. I took it in high school and got in the low 90s and I didn't even study for it. I got a free bookmark/ruler out of it. |
Ha, ha... Some of my Navy Reserve friends tried to get me in on the prior-service idea. 1 weekend a month? Anybody who believes that is a fool. Both friends just did 18 months in the sand box and are due for more. Don't kid yourself on the reserve requirements, it is no picnic. |
