Things could be worse — occasionally, someone replies with something you don't want to hear. Like right now...
Grundsau, it is with sincere regret I inform you that your Hitler quote is probably bogus. www.guncite.com has a nice section that includes a lot of bogus quotes and urban legends, and this is one that is mentioned. On the other hand, here's a nice quote from Hilter that is apparently valid:
"The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered Eastern peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so. Indeed I would go so far as to say that the underdog is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let's not have any native militia or police. German troops alone will bear the sole responsibility for the maintenance of law and order." — Adolf Hitler (1889-1945), April 11, 1942, quoted in Hitlers Tischegesprache Im Fuhrerhauptquartier 1941-1942. [Translation: Hitler's Table-Talk at the Fuhrer's Headquarters 1941-1942], Dr. Henry Picker, ed. (Athenaum-Verlag, Bonn, 1951)
