Here is my brush with greatness:

A few years ago, I got to go to some movie thing and passed gas in the same room as Steven Segal. Woo hoo!

Somehow, 'passed gas' and 'steaven segal' go together.

Here's my brush w/ greatness.  ran into Cal Ripken Jr. in line for the head on an airplane 2 weeks ago.  He's taller and thinner than he appears on t.v.  Thanked him for being a class player and helping to restore my faith in baseball.

My brushes with greatness are as follows:

Two summers ago in Las Vegas, I ran into (literally) Brion James, who played General Munro in The Fifth Element, Leon in Bladerunner, and a whole list of other films.  He looked old an haggard, but was escorting a young Barbie look-alike.  He was a nice guy, but looked like something was bothering him.  I just found out he died three weeks later.

Then last summer in Las Vegas again, both Kiefer Sutherland and Cuba Gooding Jr. stepped around my baggage while we were checking in at the Hard Rock Hotel.  They were in town to film a commercial or something for the Hard Rock later that weekend.  I only caught a glimpse of them and said nothing.  The next day my friend and co-worker actually rode down in the elevator with Kiefer and told him that he liked his work and appreciated his movies.  Personally I would have said "Dumping Julia Roberts was the biggest mistake of your life, right?" though I probably would have gotten punched. [:D]

Eariler that month I got to meet Linus Torvalds, the Finnish programmer who started Linux while in San Diego for the USENIX technical conference.  He was a very nice down to earth guy, even with my fellow technophiles tripping over themselves to talk with him.  I asked him what it was like being an icon, and he "It's great.  I always get all the credit, no matter what I do, and I never have to pay for my own beer."

Oh, and I'm married to a woman who's a decendant of both Howard Hughes and one of the Eastmans of Eastman/Kodak fame.

a)  Met Danny Glover on flight into Savannah, GA, where his daughter was graduating from college.

b)  Hung out with Paul Newman at Road Atlanta and Roebling Road near Savannah.

c)  Helped Lorenzo Lamas out of his disabled race car at Sebring 15 years ago during the 12 Hour.

d)  Participated in Tom Cruise' SCCA drivers school back in the '80s, and had him on the starter's stand at Road Atlanta at an IMSA race weekend.

e)  Had a long, pleasant conversation with Marsha Mason at Road Atlanta at the SCCA Runoffs many years ago.

f)  Met and talked with Craig T. Nelson at Daytona during the Rolex 24 and at Sebring during the 12 Hour.  Very nice guy, especially for a celebrity car owner.  Most celebrities aren't nearly as open and race car owners are not very pleasant when their car is having problems, but he was nice all the time.

im my shitty little town, we have the "10 and under world series" where rich guys push thier kids to play baseball. on that 2 weeks, my 1000 person town is over run by yuppies with lincon navigators. anyway, roger clemen's son played on one of the teams. my family is really close to the mayor, so we all got to hang out with him at a few games, but im not really a baseball fan, so it didnt thrill me so much.

One of the problems with this country is people fawning over actors (and their ilk).  For gods sake, in earlier (more enlightened times) people would stone actors instead of allowing them into their towns.

I wouldn't know a julia roberts from a bo derek from a tia carrera, and I liek it that way.  These people lie for a living, ugh, I don't think I could wash that off.

On board of directors of Handgun Control, Inc.. You guys talk about guns? :^)

Much as I love the products of the entertainment industry, 95% of them are liberal, and gun-grabbers in varying degrees of severity. Especially rock music- when was the last time- other than Ted Nugent- anybody heard of a big-time rock act touting RKBA?

Here's one to make you drool/cry in your beers!I was drinking in my local last night and my bro in law's best friend came in w/a couple of other buddies of ours. This guy "Paul"is Hugh Hefners' Valet at the Playboy mansion,he was relating a few stories last night how that when a chick pisses off The Man and he dismisses them,he packs their stuff up and takes it outside to be removed from the premises.        This guy has soooo many stories of the goings on at the mansion,I'm still trying to get an invite, but it's a tough stunt to pull off.Alot of people hit him up for special access, but he values his job too much.

I know this thread is all in fun, but some of you sound like you actually idolize these elitist snobs who would like nothing more than to disarm you and step on you face (and would if it meant advancing their career in any way).  Not one of them is worthy of your admiration or your attention.  If I ran into any of these people, I'd be polite, but not drooling or go into some kind of fit.  They're just pretty faces.

Nearly every rich, elitist Hollywood jerk is a socialist (or worse) because they have theirs and they don't care what happens to the rest of us.  They're the "useful idiots" we hear so much about.

I worked at the same casino that NSF jojo does.  When I was working at the bubunga lounge I met a nasty pile of celebs.  Patrick swazey big dork and needs to put down that beer every once in a while.  Paula abdul  fuck is she short.  Richard roundtree he was the biggest asshole of them all.  too many has been sports stars.  most were morons.  Chece of cheech and chong fame was pretty cool and so was don johnson.  But the coolest guy was Norman schwartscof (sp?) he was a bad ass.  had no part of every body kissing his ass.  He walked by me I greeted him with a nod and "evenin Genral".  He stopped shook my hand and slapped me on the shoulder.  Made a comment on my 49th AD lapel pin said good bye.  Met alot of teeny bopper stars like cast members of 90210 and some show called charmed.  Most celebs are just silly exhibition types who want to get alot of attention.  Met cooler people just walking around talking to the every day folk like you and me.  Celebs just had the luck to have everybody else know who they are.

Cheers Jim

In January of this year, the reenactment group I am in was invited to participate in the remembrance ceremonies for the Battle of New Orleans at Chalmette Battlefield, Jean Lafitte National Historic Park, in Louisiana. An experience unto itself....

Anyway, just for ha-has, we got kitted up and started marching down the main streets of New Orleans in full kit, w/knapsacks on, rifles slung, just to see the sights and be seen. (NO is an amazing place, BTW) Most people either didn't know who we were supposed to be, or didn't care- NO is a very blase place. In Boston or NYC we would have had the cops all over us like a cheap suit.

We went marching down Bourbon St. (I think) and a gentleman, in his 50s with a moustache and salt and pepper hair, comes out of his house and says to us from across the street, "I see the British have arrived- good job, lads." I thought nothing of it, but some how he looked familiar. The wife of one our members came running up and said, "Didn't you recognise him? That was Gerald McRaney, from Simon & Simon, Major Dad, etc."

Nice guy- no attitude, very courteous to us. Turns out that's his house we walked by.

Funny, this is one of the few celebs I've met, and he's pro-gun- whodathunkit?

Ran into Debbie Harry of Blondie twice, once at "Escape from New York" tour.  I was at Irvine Meadow waiting for concert to start, and a guy from KROQ asked me and my date to go backstage.  Met her, plus some long haired guys called Ramones.  Years later ran into her again at Coach House.  She's surprisingly short, and by all appearance didn't age well.

Was at an antique show with wife-unit several years ago and kept running into this blonde lady.  Literally; it was crowded and we just happened to be in the same "population eddy".  I kept noticing the killer pair of boots she had on.  I looked over at my wife who was biting her lower lip and looking like she was ready to bust out.  A few minutes later when we went off into another display, she told be later the blonde was: Jessica Lange.  I looked, and sure enough, it was Herself.  Weirdly enough, the first thought that popped into my mind was "Gee, she looks bigger on the screen.."

Some guy wanted to fight him and he talked out his but for about five mins and then put his body gaurds on the guy.

He asked if I know the guy and I siad no,He asked me if I know who he was and I said yes your that guy from the WWF ( just to be a smrt ass, it's the only thing I could think of at the time)

Then he called me a fat prick, I think he was on crack or something cuz I'm and was at the time 5'10" and 180lbs.

i agree with not fawning over actors. they are just people who are paid for pretending to be someone or something else...like politicians. however you seem to have some personal issues and a case of the red ass.
