This one is a VS in 308. Got it to keep my LSS in 7mm Ultra Mag company. Anyone else have a VS in 308? What ammo does it like best? What do you use plink with?

I've got the PSS which is pretty much the same gun. The stock is a little different. I bought the PSS because it doesn't have the keyed lock on the bolt. The gun is pretty much new so I haven't shot it too much But it likes Federal gold medal and IMI match really well (.3-.5). When I'm plinking I've used some Winchester USA and some Santa Barber mil-spec stuff, both of which shot from 1 to 1.2 inches.

Here's my 700 VS LH in .308 below. I just got it broken in recently, so I heaven't been able to jump whole heartedly into experimentation. Also included is a group that I shot during the break-in period which featured a handload of AA 2460 and a Sierra 150 grain BTSP. As for plinking ammunition, I really don't intend to shoot many factory loads, but I do like the Remington UMC stuff. This gun has a good chamber and a high quality barrel. I'm not putting any junk ammo in it.

Mine doesn't either. When did this allegedly occur?

They started putting the locks on the guns pretty recently. I originally ordered a VS but it had the lock on it which I didn't know about at the time so I turned around and sold it to get the PSS. I probably doesn't affect the way the gun shoots but I just didn't like it. I figured since I was spending that much money on a gun it better be what I want. Anyhow, I think they put them on all of their guns now because I've got a new 870 that has it

What is the typical range you guys zero a bolt action .308 at? Also, what are you guys running as far as glass on your rifles? Magnification?

The range that I shoot on only goes to 125 yards, but if you can learn your reticle subtensions, bullet drop, how to "dope" wind, etc., then it's possible to make accurate hits far beyond that. As long as you're comfortable, that is. As for glass, I'm using a Leupold Vari-X III 4.5x14. I picked it based on these criteria: I wanted a scope that was capable of the same accuracy as the rifle, i.e. 1/4 MOA adjustments, an adjustable objective, light enough to be portable, available sunshades, matched to the finish of my rifle, and high quality: no trashco, no simmons, no bushnell, no bsa (which really means bastard stopped again). You get the idea. I got it at Bear Basin Outfitters. They beat the hell out of SWFA and have free shipping on orders over $250 http://www.bearbasin.com I'm going to try some Varget next in this rifle.

I like to Zero at 250 yds. That way you can hit something about the size of a deer shoulder at 100 to 350 yds. without adjusting the scope. I'm using the Tasco SS 10 x 42m. I like the scope, it seems to be a rugged dependable scope. A friend of mine owns a farm and during deer season while riding the fence lines occasionally he'll stop and take a doe. I've seen him make 3 different shots on deer at over 500 yds. all of which were perfect hits. Anyhow the point is, he has one on his rifle, which is identical to mine and he just throws it in the truck with him until he sees a deer and his truck has no shocks left which makes for a very rough ride and it seems to retain perfect zero. I also have 2 leupold VXIII's that I like. One is 3.5-10 x 50 and the other is 6.5-20 x 40. When buying a scope, just remember, you get what you pay for. And I hate to see some one put a $150 scope on a $700 rifle.

I bought mine in November of 2000. Must not've been the entire 2000 production year or left-handed rifles were last.

Three shot group with factory 7mm Ultra Mag Remington 140gr. Partition at 100 yards, the rifle is bone stock. Scope is a Simmons 2.5-10x42mm. Yeah, i'd say it shoots pretty well. ;)

Mine likes BlackHills Match ammo. Use Rem UMC to get it on the paper between the 100yds its cheaper.  [sniper]

My Girlfriend and I took it to the range today. With American Eagle 150gr. FMJBT ammo, it shot the group you see below. The flier is a result of the shooter (me) jerking the rifle due to the report of a very loud, 'braked AK-47 about 3 feet to my left just as I squeezed the trigger. I took another shot and it put the third round into one ragged hole at 100 yards. The coin to the right is a 5 cent piece.
