The MAS 49/56 is nice for the money.

Anything but an AR-15. They are crap, obviously.
Have you ever even handled one of these, let alone shot it? Or did it just look 'kewl' and had a great magazine writeup? I think I'd like to see some more real life experience with the weapon and try it myself before declaring it the World's Best Civilian Assault Rifle. |

The AK-47 semi clone, reaches 0ut to 400 yards easy, requires less maintnance and is a rip roarin' killing machine.I beleive it beats the M4 hands down, but the 20" is a different story.

I am not going into this gun is better than that gun debate. In my opinion the best civilian assault rifle would have to be any of the AK clones. The reason I say this is that they are extremely reliable, easy to repair if necessary, affordable, and the ammo and mags are cheap. This is why so many countries choose this weapon. They can give it to anyone and have a reasonably armed person. This is the kind of rifle that is simple enough for the civilian population to learn how to use quite easily.IMHO

Whatever rifle you have andy with enough ammo to kill what needs killing.
If you get locked into one tool, you justmightlose sight of the absolute expendability of that tool. |

First off,
Most AR's I get from the US have LEO trash on them or on the box, aslong as it isnt full auto its legal here, also makes for a conversation at the range. 2nd, I own a LR 300, If I could afford myself a web cam after still being in dept paying for registration of all my guns and my new Camry I would post some pictures. I will tell you that the LR 300 is damn expensive but worth every Canadian peso I paid for it, the recoil is (I personnaly find) less then a normal AR15 and it holds in with most loads at 1" at 100 yrds. I have the 16" barreled version and I'm planning on getting a 11" and getting rid of my AR10T to pay for it. |

"civilian assault rifle" Flames a comin'... Is this question in-line with the "PC" definition? I don't believe a "civilian assault rifle" exists. The 2nd ammendment doesn't differentiate...maybe 20th / 21th century differentiation exists.... I don't know. Anyway, my opinion is that "assault" rifle is in the eyes of the politician. If we try to define assault rifle, we might as well define assault knife, assault rock, etc.. We should be more careful how we phrase our questions. I believe the question is actually...What is your definition of the "best" weapon available to the public.... |

These military style, semiautomatic rifles are Sports Utility Rifles,or [b]SUR[/b], not assault rifles.

Huuuuum? well it looks like the AR is the best.
lets look at what we have here:onw guy says m-16 one guys lr 300 and even the ar-10 came up and they all come from the ................AR! If not you better tell that to EVER army on earth with any money cuz they use them,not just America. |

An assault rifle is a select-fire weapon capable of full auto,or three round bursts. It isn't available to most civilians. ZM makes fine weapons, but it won't do anything my Bushy won't do.(In civilian form.) For close-up work, the best choice is a 12 ga.

The best civilian assault rifle (that I've tried) is a "brand new" 1953 No. 4 Enfield.
