Not really a ghillie but more for hunting. It's called a Shaggie Suit. Took my 9y/o city kid nephew out afield to call crows and maybe a predator. He had a blast. It was so big on him he just wrapped it around like a cloak. I had to take the shot (photo) this way because you wouldn't have seen him. The focusing isolates him a bit also.

From last Winter looking for coyotes. Take note how bright my bare hand looks against the shag.

Did you make it from scratch? If so did you dye the burlap or did you get it colored. I have everything I need to make mine except the dye. I just need to get to cutting all the strips of burlap, need to find a process to do that everything as of yet is way too slow.

Mine is a commercial suit. Rancho Safari puts it together. They buy the material already dyed and sew it on to a 1/4" nylon mesh shell. During summer the wind blows right thru the mesh.

I was going to make one for hunting/wildlife photography and saw this one at the Harrisburg E. Sports and Outdoors Show. For the price and not having a lot of free time, I got it.
Two years later I bought a 2nd one. I shredded most of the burlap by hand while watching tv.

Do you know how you are going to attach the burlap? I saw a real ghillie that used mini cable ties to attach netting directly to the suit. The burlap and other garnish ties to the netting. Some shoegoo was thrown in for good measure.

Mine isn't meant for anything other than hunting and it works very well.

When I get my new digital camera I'll have to post some wildlife shots.

I made a small test patch and just tied the burlap on and then shredded it. It looks good, but obviously needs color. I got all the materials from people who can get the stuff for free all I have supplied is the jacket and pants I am going to use as the base suit. I do not really have a reason to make one more than just to have one and say that I made it myself. Interesting about the mini cable ties, I may have to try a test patch using that technique. Ill see if I can get off my butt and get this thing going.

Oh yeah, the patches for the front of the real ghillie I saw and for the elbows was made from barracks bag canvas and was held on with shoegoo. Interesting about that ghillie is that there was minimal garnish on the suit. Mine has way too much on it compared to the other. I like it that way though.

Are you hunting with it? The full shag is nice, you can sit just about anywhere and be camo'ed.

If it turns out well I will give it a try hunting with it. I bet it is hot with the full coverage, but I have screening to make ventilation patches in the base suit. Hopefully that will help.

I know the gun is showing. Couldn't figure out a better way to shoot the photo and still see the Shaggie.

Anyone have suggestions on camo'ing a rifle without using spraypaint? Something that easily goes on and off.

I am probably the shittiest hunter around, but I like to go out with me Dad and Uncle. I bought a "Shaggy Suite" at the 2000 SOF convention and man does it work like a charm! I has sitting out on the side of a hill and I had birds land on me! Very light and as these things go it "Breaths" well (very important here in Arizona!)

Hey guys,
Any detailed instruction out there on making one of these? I think it would be pretty cool! I would like one for goose hunting as well as Bow. Any ideas on what to use for the base? I can get camo burlap at the Local Gander Moutain. Any other suggestions?! Looks Cool!

For geese where you will be lying out in a field, you may want to consider a Shaggie Suit. It is meant for hunters and is not a military style camo.
While wearing mine yesterday I had a red fox come within 5' of me while calling along the edge of a field.

Holy Ghillie Suits!
Hey Grundsau, Thanks for the informative links! Can't wait to start making mine. Just so happens I have an "old" batdmitton net I can use for netting, and some burlap as well. Something to keep me busy while I am off my feet, Bow hunting opens in 2 weeks, and I am going to custom make mine for where I hunt. I am going to try and make it breatheable, so as I don't totally sweat my balls off opening day. I have heard these ghillie suits to be extremely effective on deer. Some have even said, you can pull your bow back while they are watching you, they don't know what to think. The ultimate in concealment! Should be fun! Thanks!

Hey guys,
Got to revive the Ghillie topic. Went to the local Fleet Farm, to check out some Twine and coveralls. Found out coveralls toooo hot! How are flight suits for warmth? I also looked at Jute twine, the stuff they had was really thin, probably like 1/8in< Do I want to use stuff this small? Just looking for some more suggestions. Thanks!
