Actually a cop can only send you in the direction of losing your freedom, the courts take it. And only by your invitation, you breaking the law.
As for G*d, we get free choice from G*d. Again the decisions are ours. Live our life or destroy it, by our own choice. The only common element is you! |

No offense dude, but calling someone a troll with 13 posts to your name, at least one of which you used to insult someone, doesn't scream credability...
That said, cops and god can't be the same..... I can outshoot 99.9% of the cops on the planet, but if there is a god I bet he would send me off the range in shame after plinking my .40 rounds out of the air with his M1A (and god would use a M1A IMHO). |

[:D] The only strange statement (to me) was that he thanked me for being up front about the CCW , However he stated that I need not offer that info in the future??? Lets just say that the force that I'm currently on has at this time around 110 Officers, now maybe these guys are above the norm but I know of SEVERAL of our guys who CAN SHOOT !!! One of our Officers was involved in a gunfight where the "perp" had already killed an Officer by shooting him through the back window of his cruiser with a MAK-90 as he drove by. The Officer [b]WHILE BEING FIRED UPON, RETURNED FIRE WITH HIS HK USP .45 AND WITH ONE ROUND TOOK THE PERP OUT AT 47 YARDS !!!![/b]
Cops CAN shoot !! AND it's a HUGE difference between being on the range and when you know a good friend is DEAD and you are under fire from a rifle and all you have is your sidearm. Gunrunner |

Your department may be above average, but my experince has been that the vast majority of cops can't shoot worth a damm, at least by my standards. I know several that are good with handguns, a handful better than me (handgun shooting is my weakest area) but give any of them a rifle and they suck. Even the handfull of SWAT "sharpsooters" I know are good out to about 200m, but past that they suck at range estimation and windage. Make em shoot with iron sights and they go all to hell.
I know several cops that may master one or the other, but a cop who is truly skilled with both handgun, shotgun, carbine and rifle is a rare, rare breed. Heck I put more rounds downrange in practice last month than many LEO's fire in 10 years. |

Lougotzz, when I "hung around" on Tom Bowers Board (and I was one of the first) I posted a topic titled "It's time to turn and walk away". It was about my turning in my resignation as Chief of Police for my Department. The reason I resigned was because of political pressure, I would NOT compromise my values so I QUIT !!! So now I'm a Reserve Officer in the town where I live (different Dept.) and I'm happy because so far it's "by the book" all the way. You would be shocked by the amount of Officers who BELIEVE in the LAW !!!!!

Gunrunner. We have that same scenario playing out in a town not far from here. The police commission suspended the Chief who is very highly respected by the officers in the dept. and the citizens. They wouldn't give the reasons why and it has been dragging on for months. The Chief resigned this week. The power hungry mayor refused to release the results of the investigation used to suspend the Chief quoting an agreement signed by the commission & Chief.
The Chief called his bluff yesterday stating in the paper he is willing to sign a release form so the results of the investigation can be made public. It is a shame..he was the best thing to happen to that force and politics drove him away. |

Since everyone seems to get offended, I will tell you what offends me. Many, not all, but way too many members of this board, take every story they hear about how some cop somewhere violated someones rights. It becomes gospel, like to cop shooting the dog, or the friends son who was hasseled, even though he goes to the U.S. Military Academy. But if we, cops that is, get offended by a thread, we are overly sensitive. After 18 years on the job, I will tell you one sure truth. The prisons are full of innoncent men. Even if they have a video, DNA, 75 witnesses, a signed confession, they are innoncent. We, cops, are held to a standard that is generally unobtainable by any human being. And when we screw up, or even when we don't, and the press or people only listen to one side of a story, the lynch mob is out in full force. Sorry, but USMA grads can be real assholes too. I saw it when I was an instructor at Ft. Knox. A drunk from the little boys school on the Hudson tore the badge off a Radcliffe officer. The officer was trying to be polite to an obnixous drunk and get him back on base. The drunk got off because of the West Point Mutual Protection Society. The commandant of the Armor School, a 2 star general, who also is the base commander, fixed it. I see it here. Most are good folks, who seldom run afoul of us. But with so many student Naval Avaitors we have some who are assholes. As to the dog incident, so many were angry, the stupid cop should be fired, and on and on. Well, this was an unattributed letter from an unknown person posted by Imbroglio. No sort of documentation to prove the author was telling the truth, or that the incident had even occured.
I don't mind being judged when I am wrong. Just don't jump on bandwagons that may not even exist. Also, remember there are 2 sides to every story, and the truth is usually somewhere in the middle. And no, I do not have a God complex. Some other board members do have ahhh, shall we say, definite signs of meglomania... "I can out shoot everyone who ever lived", give me a friggin break... |

Geese, sorry if your so thin skinned, but I am not really bragging out about my abilities, I'm not a world class or Olympic shooter by a long shot. But my experience and observations remain... most cops can't shoot, and you don't have to be that good to out shoot them. I would bet if you took 100 regular posters to this board and 100 random off the street cops and had a match, the results be be overwhemingly in favor of the guys and gals on here. The slim margian that can shoot is over represented on this board and other firearms boards, as those who care enough out fireamrs to post here are going to put extra effort into learning to shoot. Yes, I shoot with lots of cops, all the time. I was at the range when a Sherrifs department west of here was qualifying, it was scary. Those who I see that do shoot well do so because they like to shoot and are into it like everyone on this board is, and not due to any LE training. Tell me, how many rounds does the average officer in your department put through thier weapons each year? Not talking about SWAT, just regular patrol officers. What percentage compete succesfully in shooting competetions? Of all the LEO's in my end of the state, I only see a handfull with any regularity at any type of competition. And forget seeing any at rifle matches. Don't get me wrong, the vast majority of soldiers can't shoot well either. If your not combat arms or an MP odds are you are gonna fire less than 100 rounds a year. For reserve componets it is worse. One of my major complaints with the Army is that the average soldier in my Combat Engineer battalion gets to put 49 rounds downrange a year(Average 9 to zero to Army standard, 40 on the qualification range) , and that is simply not enought to maintain skills. Those who can shoot within the unit do so because they shoot outside the Army. |
