What is a "fire team"?

My friend is in Afghanistan and his wife tells me he is the leader of a "fire team"...
(NMCB-25) Navy Sea-Bee...

Soldier -> Fire Team -> Squad -> Platoon -> Company

Basically, he's an E5 most likely.

A squad (typically 10-14 men) is made up of two fire teams.

an E-5 if he's in the army. the Marine Corps trusts E-4s to run a fire team. hell, some of my best team leaders have been E-3s.

In a perfect world, with the Army having 125% Retention and Recruiting, yes.

In the real world, 6-9guys in a Squad of 2 fireteams.
