I'd say very effective if they don't have to deal with RPGs and heavy machine guns in the LZ.

I picked up a book on this outfit and they have some of the coolest toys on the planet. But it seems like helicoptes are bullet/RPG magnets and when they go down, a lot of hard-to-replace guys (remember the +/- 12 SEALs in A'stan?) go with them.

I would venture and say that they are probably the most effective at what they do.

They are trained to excellence in flying at night and low visibility and going into crowded areas where troops need to be.

Best helo pilots in the US military, or any military for that matter.
Their flight hours cast a shadow over any other military unit.

I've worked with a few down here, a great bunch of guys. By FAR one of the most professional soldiers I've run into. They know their shit, I would not want to be fighting against them.

It's easy to forget how risky and dangerous their job is, how difficult it is to do even withOUT people shooting at you, and the fact that no other country has this level of ability. Yes, there are accidents, shoot-downs, and losses. Such has been the fate of warriors since time began. War fighting is a dangerous, deadly occupation. But you can't take away the skill and the bravery of the Night Stalkers. They have no equal at what they do.

My brother seems to think they are pretty effective, but I think he might be biased since he runs FARP teams in the 160th.

I've met a few of the pilots at the MacDill Air Shows and they seemed like really good guys, knew their shit. They definitely have some cool gear.

They seem very down to earth (pardon the pun), too. I met a few last year at an event in DC. Rangers, SEALs, and 1st SFG were there, too, doing the dog & pony for Congressional funds.

Flying helos isn't easy to begin with, and doing so with minimal depth perception (NVGs) is even more impressive. None braver....

Never met any of the pilots, but I went to BNCOC with their mechanics last year and that was the most obnoxious, un professional group of NCO's I've ever met.

I'm sure the Unit is extremely good at what they do. But their mechanics are first class assholes.

They are the skyborne equivalent of our special warefare teams that operate on the ground. So I'd say they are pretty damn good at their job.
