Finishing residency in 10 days.   Paid by the hospital, but I work at the office with one group when I am not on rotations.

My youngest attending (the only associate in the practice) is in contract negotiations with the two partners (my other attendings), and also looking elsewhere.   His classmates (out of residency by 3 years) are making at least 50% more than he is (even factoring in cost of living).   He had an offer locally, but has a non-compete clause in his current contract (and he was told it would be enforced).  

I had an interview in the Allentown/Bethlehem/Lehigh Valley area and accepted.   During my looking over the contract, I mentioned that I would ask my current attending about the contract as he was in contract negotiations and could provide me some pointers.  

I get paged.   My (soon-to-be) new boss is on the phone saying "hey, if XXX is looking, have him call us".  I put them in touch.  

Now XXX  has accepted a position there also.

I wonder if my residency director is going to be PISSED that I lured the younger guy away.    The younger guy has said he won't tell them WHERE he is going.  

If I'm reading all this correctly, your residency director works for the place that's hosing the attending and not paying him squat?

You didn't make a mistake, you simply gave some people some phone numbers and let them do their thing.  Perhaps they should have worked on paying the attending enough that he wouldn't have a reason to jump ship.

No, if they wanted to keep physicians around then they would ffer what they are really worth for the area.

My Residency Director is one of the Partners in the Practice.

Unfortunately both he and the other partner practice medicine from 15 years ago.   One office girl, the doctor, and one billing specialist for 3 offices.  

They are paying what they think is fair to the youngest attending (the associate).   Unfortunately, medicine has significantly changed as a business since 1990 (and earlier).  

The Doctors are all excellent--VERY well thought of by their peers, and the Residency Director and Youngest Attendings are very good surgeons.  The oldest guy has forgotten more things than other doctors know.  

Not a bad training ground, but not a place to get any growth either (unless the business practices change).

Well--Today the Youngest guy gave written notice that he was not going to remain on after the contract ended.   I have his contract and my contract in an envelope to send out tomorrow via overnight to our new place of employment.

The best part:

Tomorrow I have to go with the two Partners (my residency director and the other partner) to a Continuing Ed. seminar afte work.   A 45 minute drive each direction.   Me captive in the car.
