Expansion often requires a cash infusion. Look who the CEO still is. A very familiar name indeed. As to the previous owners, we all know that any smallish business is most profitable to the owner when it is sold to a larger concern. I would play chicken little until I actually saw the sky falling. It looks pretty blue and clear from here.

There is nothing like the good service provided by a company with a soul and owned by a single person. Bushmaster has long provided great service to me. They have become large and prosperous. When a company becomes more business model oriented and corporately owned, often it has no soul, and things change. Sometimes good sometimes bad. Best wishes to Bushmaster in their new operating model. You can't blame an entreprenur for cashing in his chips and reaping the fruits of his efforts. M4-AK |

Hopefully things will continue on as is.
All too often large corps buy reputable companies and ride their name into oblivion with diminished products and service. I guess I don't consider this a good thing given how well Bushmaster has done. Far more room to go down than up IMO. We'll see. |

A number of years ago, I spoke with Tom Barr, he's some type of high up mucky muck, at Quality Parts Corp/Bushmaster, and according to him, installing those sight towers "are a real bitch." He goes on to tell that they use a special jig developed in-house for this purpose. |

Is customer service that bad? I ordered a bunch of spare parts two weeks ago and they missed two small items in my order. I sent them an email and told them no big deal could they just include them on my next order (placed this morning) but they said they had already sent them in the mail.
Other than some parts for my spare stock supplies i have not done any business with them. What was the problem with the FSB? |

My thoughts exactly. Hopefully, it is a deal intended to increase the growth potential and financial stability of the company, not an attempt for Cerberus to extract as much value as possible. Time will tell. It can definitely go either way. Given the large number of new players in the AR market, if the new owners try to increase their margins by cutting quality/services, it would really hurt the company. On the flip side, if the owners want to try to grow the business, this may be an awesome opportunity. (And, if they've got deep pockets, maybe another lobbyist to work against gun control in Washington) |

Best case, they can improve production, and massively market a good product for somewhat less money.
Worst case, the do the same thing that Schwinn Bicycles did... make a good, expensive product, sell off the name to a takeover company who then immediately outsources everthing to china and puts crap product with a great name in every wal-mart in America. In five years the name has been bled dry and is now synonimous with crap. |

Let's not turn this into that same tired old thread. It's not like Bushmaster is unable to do things like individual MP testing (which would at most cost a buck ro two per rifle) or other marginal differences between the two manufacturers. It's just that they made a decision to not do those things (most likely because they judged it to not be important) - just like other manufacturers make decisions about what steel to use, and whether to park under FSBs or whatever. It's really not a "quality" issue at all, but people mistakenly perceive it as such. |

On the bright side, they're being bought by money men, who hopefully know enough that they don't want to run a firearms business day to day.
I'd be more concerned if they were bought by a large firearms manufacturer who wanted to come in and run things their own way. |

Yup. No question about it. IMO we've been witnessing the slow-mo long term decline of the American Firearms industry for some time now. Most arfcommers aren't old enough to know how much more seriously gun manufacturers took their products in decades past. Not that everything was flawless, just that they at least took their role a makers of lethal tools seriously. Now all they're interested in is in making lots of bucks by making new toys. Half the owners of these companies wouldn't know a good firearm from a good fountain pen. Bushmaster was one of the last small arms makers whose products I've had very good luck with. That'll end now, mark my words.
