The Stars and Stripes flying over the US embassy in Tokyo.
It probably struck me so strongly because I haven't been back to the US for about 10 months now.

Sorry for the quality, camera-phone.

OK, the camera?USB cord? has decided that it wants to work again so...

Bomb proof bus? or something.

Average "Kidoutai"(Sort of riot police, but quite different from the American version) Japanese police man.
The baton on the left and the revolver on the right is his full load out of weapons.
The revolver is called a "New Nanbu" 5 shots and the first one is a blank.
No ammo for reloading.

He got some kind of toy revolver in that holster or what?  Cops carry J frame sized revolvers?

I'd sure hate to be in a shootout if I were him.

And I feel "undergunned" sometimes when packing my Makarov and 2 spare mags!

I hear that there is little crime there, as it is dealt with swift and harsh.

I have been told by a Japanese policeman that 99% of them go through their entire career without even once drawing with the intent to shoot a person

Taking in to account that the typical Japanese policeman (or most occupations in Japan) would start around either 18 or 22 depending on high school graduate/university graduate, then not change jobs until retirement at the age of 60, 63, or 65, that is quite a record.

Sounds like a great place to be a cop.

I get like that too sometimes. Walking around camp here there are a few flags flying and sometimes I take a few extra seconds to look at it and wish I was back home.

Someone posted here a few months ago (the phatom woods shitter) that said that the flap on their holster was sealed and if that seal was broken they had to fill out paper work explaining why.

"This made me very proud!'

You want to be proud? Try Checking out our young men and women in the armed forces over there. Yokota AFB and Yokosuka Naval base are close to where you are. Nothing like seeing a U.S. Navy super carrier in Tokyo bay.

Haven't seen those bases, but I've been inside Sasebo Navel Base and recently toured Okinawa.
Sasebo was very impressive, a few JMSDF ships surrounded by US navy
