I would spend a bit more. for a Keltec Sub2000 plus the Glock version has 10-33nrd magazines available that the High Point has nothing

beat me to it. get the kel tec. i have one and love it. it is rugged, reliable, and VERY compact because it folds in half. you can fit it under the seat, in a big glove box, in a laptop bag, or just about anywhere. let me say it again: GET THE KEL TEC!!! you can get them to take mags from glock, sig, beretta, and S&W. I have the beretta one, but a lot of guys like the glock because it will take the 30rd g18 mags. get the one that matches your pistol so you can swap mags back and forth. GET THE KEL TEC! |

I had one a long time ago when they first came out. For $200, you really can't beat it. Never had a problem with it. The only other thing in semi-auto for less than $200 that I would recommend is an SKS.
ETA: Kel-Tec mikes some fine stuff too. I am the owner of a PLR-16 and a P3AT and love them both. |

It may be better than their pistols, but it's still a Hi-Point. I'd look for a used .38/.357 levergun, or a used Ruger PC9. Edit: how did I not think of the Kel-Tec? That's a great choice too. |

I've shot a hi point pistol, and it was a huge POS. I wouldn't trust one to shoot at the range. I've messed with a hi point carbine at the gun store, it felt like a POS, but who knows.
Spend the extra cash and get the keltec sub2000, I owned a 9mm one, and it was a very reliable gun. |

Get a Kel Tec sub, CV. It is a few $$$ more but it is a much better weapon.

Everything I've heard about them was quite positive (aside from here on AR15.com at least). I've heard people claim that they're as accurate and reliable as a Beretta Storm. It may be ugly as hell, but now you can get a thing for it to make it look similar to a Storm for about $70.

i put the one i had right up there or better than the berretta storm i have now for relibility.
YES it's a cheap gun, yes it is cheaply made and frankly i always considered it disposable. That said it ALWAYS went bang and was more accurate than my storm. they don't always like hollow point or soft lead bullets though. |

FWIW, I never had a jam or malfunction in 1500 rds of wolf in the time I had one.
They feel crappy and are a pain to strip, but they are reliable. |

buy one, you WONT regret it.
I have had mine over a year and enjoy shooting it along with my AR 1911's De.. wait Beagle I liked it better than my Glocks i HAD.

NO WAY is the Storm in the same price range as the Hi-point. Most are around $500 I have seen. But I agree with those who say go with the SUB-2000. |

I also had an early Kel-Tec SUB2000, but it had some extraction problems. Overall my favorite is the Ruger (no experiance with a Storm yet) mainly because it accepts 15+rd mags and it's ability to imitate a club.

i belive someone is making a 15 rnd mag for it..
but 10s are fine buy me ill just buy more mags.... honestly i have not read one bad thing about them other than there looks"ugly as hell" but "ati" is making a new stock for them now looks like a storm stock.. |

See if you can find an M-1 carbine and load it with Cor-bon ammo.
FWIW, if you are still considering the Hi-Point, it's not a bad gun. My brother in law has one and so does a guy I work with, and neither one have ever said anything negative about them. The mag capacity is about the only thing I can think of that might be negative.....the standard cap (single stack) mag that comes with them is (I think) seven or eight rounds, and supposedly there are ten to fifteen round mags available. |

I have been looking at them also.
Are they comming out with a .45 as was posted? I am not a fan of .38 cal wepons (inculding 9mm) after I witnessed a crazied doper take 15 rounds of .38/357 and live. Before the shit storm of the effectiveness of the round, all were from about 10 yards or less in a LEO setting and no round hit the heart or spine. It was one of those close as hell blasting as fast as possible and he had a sawed off 12 ga. I agree a well placed shot from a .22 would have taken him out . But in that type of situation as you are trying to get your ass out of the way , bullits don't go in the right places. A .45 while not the answer, the wound does not close up as fast as the smaller round and thus I like it better. BTW the perp. is serving 265 years for the muders and the wounding of a buddy LEO. But he shits in a bag now but he is alive. dang it |

It was BeerSlayer, it was determined to be the ammo that caused it, the gun did it's job and did not seriously injure the shooter when it KB'd and Kel-Tec replaced it with no hassle even though it was determined to be an ammo problem. Really can't complain too much about that. |

+1. No problems with the one I had. I didnt intend to use it for anything serious, though. You may be better served with an SKS. |
