What do the "troll hunters" do? Nothing, really. The trolls tend to bring themselves to the attention of the mods, and the mods and staff are the only ones with the power to ban.

I don't know milsurp's pattern, but I can pretty much spot clean_cut or a copycat troll.

That's because they can't do anything really. You call out a troll, you end up getting a warning and the troll skates.

This board really needs a feature like free republic - a 'report abuse' button on each post to directly draw attention to the troll. Around there trolls don't last long and the board runs a lot smoother because of it.

Otherwise they tend to survive in the shadows while they build up their post count. They may get reported to random mods, but unless one mod establishes a record of a specific troll, it usually survives for a long time, shitting on the board.

all that usually happens is the troll hunters end up harrassing someone thery "THINK" is a troll and getting themselves locked in a flagrant act of stupidity before the troll gets locked.

here's a thought, ignore them and they go away.

The advice is often given, but it never works. They just turn up the volume and intensity until they get attention.

the problem with a bounty for trolls is that people dont know the difference between a troll, and someone they don't agree with. there are plenty of threads where a fight breaks out, both sides accuse the other of being a troll, even when neither one is.

that said, i think team members should be able to vote on people. each person gets a rating based on the voting by the team membership, and if you fall below a certain rating your name is brought to the attention of the mods.

if you're not a team member you don't get to say shit.

How hard is it?
If a troll, or troll-hunter gets zero reaction to their posts,
they go away to find action elsewhere.
Just ignore them. 100% ignore them.
