OK. Your PShop-Fu is strong. I think we need a "how to" on those. Some of us would love to know how to do that kind of stuff.

Fill layer one with black
add new layer
fill layer 2 with black
filters > noise > add noise: amount ~22*%, gaussian, monochrome
ctrl + L: drag middle arrow (where there's three) toward the left until acheived desired result
merge or set opacity for desired result.

there is your star field

new layer

eliptical marquee tool, set whatever size planet you want.
DO NOT DESELECT YOUR AREA UNTIL I SAY SO GODDAMN IT!
choose a different background color, keep forground color black.
filter > render> clouds
new layer
choose yet again a different color background
filter > render > clouds -- filter >render > difference clouds
set opacity to whatever lever you want
merge these two layers
filter > distort > sphereize
ctrl + f to do it again.

there is your planet

you can add new planets, mess with the lighting with filter > render > lighting effects
or add lense flares. * indicates variable value. Change it how you want.

the nebulea in the BG is made by making a new layer over the starfield layer, adding
clouds and then turning down the opacity.

also, to make a large planet that will cover huge part of screen, make another image (file > new)
and make it something like 2000 x 2000, use same steps to make it, then copy it over. Otherwise
you cannot sphereize it.

Happened upon this one today....

"This is my latest and most ambitious digital painting of a Chicago scene unveiled at Photoshop World in Miami on March 22, 2006.
It is a panorama of the Damen Station on the Blue Line of the Chicago Transit Authority.
Adobe Illustrator was used for generating the majority of the basic shapes as well as all the buildings in the Chicago skyline.
The rest was created in Photoshop.
• The image size is 40 inches by 120 inches.
• The flattened file weighs in at 1.7 Gigabytes.
• It took eleven months (close to 2,000 hours) to create.
• The painting is comprised of close to fifty individual Photoshop files.
• Taking a cumulative total of all the files, the overall image contains over 15,000 layers.
• Over 500 alpha channels were used for various effects.
• Over 250,000 paths make up the multitude of shapes throughout the scene."

If I spend more than an hour on one Photoshop, I just say 'fuck it" and leave it at that.
