Every time, I'm so disappointed that I vow never again.

In Manchester, NH this weekend, it was a combination flea market/freak show. If the Brady Bunch filmed either the dealers or the customers it'd make great anti-gun footage.

Sample prices:

Garand clips for $5

USA-brand mags for $20

USGI twenty-rounders for $32

I can't even bring myself to discuss the Blue Sky Garands - I'll pop a capillary in my brain or something.

I went with a two-page list of stuff to look for, and came home with nothing.

And then to add insult to injury, there are signs all over saying "No CCW", and they ask you at the door if you're armed.

I agree. Gun shows used to be a place to get a few good buys. Now the internet is the place to go.

Of course, the ftf deals can be good.

I never thought of it like that, but that's spot on.

+1 on the entertainment. Also a few reputable ARFcom industry partners show up and have good deals, and new products that I actually want to buy. The other dealers have about 75% junk.

Manchester ? or are you referring to the Concord show?

Was there two shows this weekend?

Exactly. Cost me 6 bucks to get in, and I'll wander for a few hours and meet up with some people I know and shoot the shit.

I can't spend a Saturday afternoon anywhere else but home for that cheap.

Besides, if I hang out in the parking lot long enough, I'll invariably find a good deal on something.

the gunshow i went to this past weekend near me was as bad if not worse.     sks striperclips,1 clip 10 rounds $8.00..        and at the top of the shit pile was a mini 14 with a folding stock that was beat to hell for $1,500.

I got back into the gun hobby in 2003, and every firearm purchase I've made has been online...mostly through the EE!

This might be an exaggeration, but it seems like gun shows are only for people who want to hand pick a WASR AK.

I got 6 slightly used HK91 aluminum mags for $18 and 250 rounds of 69 gr HPBT 223 for $85.

You need to move.

The little, crappy gun show at the Mesquite Rodeo here in Dallas is still way better than the gun show at the Gibralter Trade Center back in Michigan! The Big Town shows can't even be compared to anything in Michigan that I ever saw and for me, the Market Hall show in Dallas is like heaven on Earth!

Yeah they suck sometimes. However, sometimes, you hit and score big. I've bought 3 superb USGI 1911s at shows the past few years along with a untouched unfired ACE, a Navy Trophy Garand [.308], a 43 Garand that is as close to perfect as one could ask for, a very nice $400 FAL, and other toys.

I've also walked out empty handed cept for some ammo cans.

Ask yourself, could you find a 100% RR USGI 1911A1 that looked as if it had never been touched much less fired, and cost 1K in your town?  I can't.  You just gotta do your homework.

Reason #1) Every now & then I find a deal that makes it all worthwhile. ie, I bought (3) HK-93 magazines for less than $75 at the last show I went to.

Reason #2) I feel like I got great deals on my guns when I see how much Garands, M1 Carbines, & 1911's are going for these days.

Oops, I meant Concord.

And I forgot to mention the highlight: A tattooed, pierced freak with his young (I'm guessing around 8) son. The kid was so happy when his dad bought him a deer foot that he was jumping up and down shouting "Holy fuck! Holy fuck!" while his proud father looked on and smiled.

I agree.  I saw a guy trying to sell that guatamalan .223 for $80 for a battle pack.  $600 for a stag upper (complete no buis).....I got one off the EE for $480 with a buis).  $90 for a LPK, $35 for a buffer (no spring).  $140 for a bolt/BCG  $40 for a CH with tac-latch, but that's the only one he sold, and if felt........cheap.  Guy had a lot of ar-15 stuff, but MY GOD.  I talked to him once, and he didn't treat me bad, but his stuff was so over-priced that I didn't even feel like dickering with him because I knew I could get it cheaper somewhere else.  Now, I'm not trying to undercut dealers by shopping around for the cheapest anywhere, but with I can get the same thing he was selling for $115 less, and with an A.R.M.S buis (shipped)....there's no question.

I also had an ammo dealer tell me that Bosnia is now making ammo for our government under contract, and he just happened to have $45 200-rnd battlepacks of it. Anyone else heard that?

The trick it to set your expectations low, that way you won't be disappointed.
I mostly go for the entertainment value, sort of like paying to see a movie. A day spent at a mediocre gunshow is still better than sitting at home watching TV or cutting the grass.

Recently I stumbled across a couple of decent deals. I found a like-new in box Norinco 1911 for $300, and it shoots better than any of my Colts (the small sights suck, though). The other deal I found was a private sale on a non-import Inland carbine in fantastic condition for $550.

The beat-up Garands with the cheap Century cast receivers with the $650 price tags always crack me up.

I bought one of those battlepacks only because I didn't want to leave emptyhanded after driving an hour. That stuff is the "M193" by Privi Partizan, not sure of the spelling, haven't shot any yet so I can't tell you how good it is.There is a 20 page writeup/analysis of it in the ammo forum here.

True. There's always several Courtney Love look-a-likes on hand with their hip-hugger jeans, halter tops, and tousled blond hair. They always look like they just got fucked out in the parking lot.

I've got one screaming deal, 5 five round saiga-12 mags for $5.00 each. I was like "do you have any more". Got some greek 30-06 for a few bucks more then century was selling it for and a Superior Lower for $90. The best bet is to wait by the door for people to walk in with stuff, I've seen some very good deals go down.
