I fired up the push mower yesterday.  Mowed for about an hour then and an hour again today.  Still have about an hour to go.

Latest I've started mowing since 2002.  I put down 50 lbs. of fertilizer on the yard about a month ago, made it a bit greener.

And thus begins 6 months of weekly mowing.  Sad thing is that I miss it during winter.

Today was my second time...the yard needs a little help this year.

First time is going to be this weekend it looks like.  I'm going to try and keep it nice and short this year.

This should be my second time, but we haven't had the weather for it.  3 weeks ago the temp was in the 70s every day and the grass was growing fast.  Then it turned off cold again.  Today was the first 70*+ day we've had since that last warm spell.

Not yet - still a little cool for good growth.

I'll fertilize this weekend if no rain.

We never stopped cutting down here.
Every two weeks in summer and every 4 weeks in winter... our summers are 9 months long and out winters are only 3 months long.

We had 3" of snow 2 weeks ago.  Weather here is so weird this time of the year.  One week it will be 75* and sunny.  The next week it will be 35* with wind and snow.  That will be immediately followed by 70* and thunderstorms.

Snow's only been gone for a couple of days and it's been raining off and on for the past week or two.

Gonna be awhile before I have to deal with it.

So you finally settled in Montana?  I must have missed the thread about that.

I envy you.

It's too mushy out there still. It snowed the other day and then rained all day today, but at least the lawns are green now...

No, but my lawn is centipedegrass.  It's still mostly dormant from the winter, but it's start to green up a little bit.

Mowed once already (fairly early for us here). Need to mow again, and it's only been a week. Been wet and warm the past few weeks though. Almost time to start planting the flowers and layin down the mulch...................

No, but yesterday I put fresh oil in mine plus a new plug and blade. It will be like brand new next weekend when the cutting fun begins again.

I mowed mine last weekend. It was the first time since last July!
The damn drought has almost destroyed my lawn. The little town I live in has a private water company, and my water bill runs about $120.00 with no pool, no lawn watering, no washing the Jeep or truck. That's $120.00 for washing clothes, dishes and baths. I have checked- no leaks. And that bill does not include trash- that's another $29.00.

I want rain!!!

Hell yes.

Heck, if you like to mow, come on down to Orlando. It never stops, just slows down a little in the winter. By the middle of summer you could cut it twice a week. And you are really asking for trouble if you throw much fertilizer on it.

All complaining aside I have a little slice of paradise and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Mowed it 2 days ago, what a PITA.

Didn't use stabil nor run the mower for 10-20 mins each month during the winter months, but got my old grumpy 1989 vintage tecumseh enging to fire up, 80% of the yard had grass 4-6" high, some had spots over a foot high

Mower kept dying when trying to mow the 12" high grass.  Had to use a lawn rake to get all those grass clippings up too.

Now that I'm on top of it, subsequent mowing sessions shall be eaiser

Yep, fired it up and mowed my small patch of yard.

I hate living in my crummy neighborhood, and I hate yardwork.  The houses are small and on top of each other.  All the disadvantages of apartment living, without the advantage of no yardwork.

Plus you can tell when it's spring; the homies across the street start tinkering with their car stereos.  Even 50 yards away, their bass makes the makes the wine glasses in the cabinets start pinging.

God yes. I spread rye on my yard this winter to help the centepede take root (new yard.) Lets just say, I've been mowing the yard twice a week for 4 weeks now.

Oh yeah, I'm in Alabama so it's been pretty warm for a while now.

If it wasn't raining, I'd mow it for the first time today. I'll at least get the mower ready though since I can see I'll be mowing after work at least a couple of days next week. My policy is to try to kill the grass. It works well too - it keeps coming back thicker and greener.  I gotta get a bigger mower one of these days.

Yeah, a few years ago, we had some regrading done to our yard in the fall, so I planted Winter Annual Rye, and had to cut often during the winter.  Come springtime, I killed off the remaining Rye (it was annual Rye so it was dying anyway) and planted the centepede.  Here in Hampton Roads, VA, I'm at the nothern edge of the centipede range, but it's done well.  Three other yards near mine (including one next door) are centipede.

So in Alabama you're already mowing your centipede?  Mine's just starting to green up.

I have two acres but last year I mowed the yard for the last time in June. It was so dry that the grass just stayed a coupla inches long and semi green but would not grow longer. I mowed it last sunday for the first time since then. 9 months without mowing, kinda wierd

Not even close. Still ahve snow though the thaw is underway.

One of our best days of snowmobiling ever was on April 14th. A foot of fresh powder overnight and no dipshit tourists fucking up the ride. Cruised on fresh powder for about 15 miles before we ran into another rider.

I live on a lake and except for about 10ft around the edge the rest remains ice covered. We do have a lot of birds coming in though.

What he said.

I happily pay $35 a cut year-round. I had to cut the grass as a kid. Now I'm an adult and no-one can make me do it. I don't eat broccoli anymore either
