Todd Heisler The Rocky Mountain News
When 2nd Lt. James Cathey's body arrived at the Reno Airport, Marines climbed into the cargo hold of the plane and draped the flag over his casket as passengers watched the family gather on the tarmac. During the arrival of another Marine's casket last year at Denver International Airport, Major Steve Beck described the scene as one of the most powerful in the process: "See the people in the windows? They'll sit right there in the plane, watching those Marines. You gotta wonder what's going through their minds, knowing that they're on the plane that brought him home," he said. "They're going to remember being on that plane for the rest of their lives. They're going to remember bringing that Marine home. And they should."

Todd Heisler The Rocky Mountain News
The night before the burial of her husband's body, Katherine Cathey refused to leave the casket, asking to sleep next to his body for the last time. The Marines made a bed for her, tucking in the sheets below the flag. Before she fell asleep, she opened her laptop computer and played songs that reminded her of 'Cat,' and one of the Marines asked if she wanted them to continue standing watch as she slept. "I think it would be kind of nice if you kept doing it," she said. "I think that's what he would have done..........

UPDATED: The first photos were temp removed due to excessive bandwidth. All I can say is thank you for very this so many time that that happened. I have gladly reposted them. In the process, I found a third photo that sadly explains the already sad second photo a little better.

Todd Heisler, Rocky Mountain News. At the first sight of her husband's flag-draped casket, Katherine Cathey broke into uncontrollable sobs, finding support in the arms of Major Steve Beck. When Beck first knocked on her door in Brighton to notify her of her husband's death, she glared at him, cursed him, and refused to speak to him for more than an hour. Over the next several days, he helped guide her through the grief. By the time they reached the tarmac, she wouldn't let go.

Todd Heisler, Rocky Mountain News. Katherine Cathey pressed her pregnant belly to her husband's casket, moaning softly. The baby, due Jan. 1, will be named James Jeffrey Cathey Jr.

I weep like an infant.

Todd Heisler, Rocky Mountain News. As his son's funeral neared, Jeff Cathey's tears rarely stopped. He often found comfort in the men who shared his son's uniform. "Someone asked me what I learned from my son," he said. "He taught me you need more than one friend."

...speechless.....

This just makes me more pissed and angry towards all the war protestors/activist ect.  These men died protecting our freedoms.  We all need to be thankful.  Regardless of the feelings on war, agree/disagree is not the issue.  But Showing support for our men and women in uniform should not be a question.  If you do not support our troops, You are NO AMERICAN in my eyes!!!

God Bless~

I've been a cop for the last 12 years, doing Traffic Homicide for the past 10.  I've seen so many tragedies in my career.  Not much bothers me anymore.  My wife sometimes tells me I have a calloused heart.

That last picture and it's description brought tears to my eyes.

RIP Marine.

There has never been a time in which we could have been more proud of our uniformed services than right now.

When I see young people like those Marines, I know in my heart as sure as I know anything that I am witnessing Another Great Generation.

Sure, there aren't as many, but there have never been any better.

I have never been prouder to be an American nor felt more unworthy of such sacrifices.  As God is my witness, I can never do anything to deserve the the service that these Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Coasties render me.

Like the man onced asked, "Where does America keeping finding young people such as these?"

Y'know....I was already having a pretty crappy day here..... but these kinda put things into a bit of perspective.

My heart goes out to Katherine Cathey, for the loss of her husband (my fellow Marine), tears shed for a brother I never knew.
