This reminds me of the last blurry pictured table-saw accident thread.
Does he have pictures of it fixed? |
The table saw made his fingers red and blurry?
Hope he feels better soon. |
damn right they do. Especially when you're try to take a pic with what was your off hand waiting for the wife to bring the car around to take you to the ER. Not counting my guns as dangerous tools my table saw is in the top 5 dangerous tools I've. Radial Arm Saw/ Router Table - Tied for first Roto-Zip - Third router - fourth table saw - fifth |

i find my black and decker in-house fire starter to be exceptionally dangerous
my blasting cap yo-yo is quite dangerous as well. not to mention my c-4 baseball collection...don't want to toss those around too much ah hell, i've been up for many hours and i'm starting to get delirious |
That was a router table/shaper. Please show us the pics of it fixed. Don't leave us hanging like that..... last finger... |
....by a tendon |

You know, every time I see this kind of thing I can't help but to wonder if there is any other website in the entire universe that has guys taking pics of grievous injuries before medical treatment so their ARFCOM buddies can get a peek. I hope he recovers fully. I expose myself to this every weekend, so it hits close to home thinking of the close calls I've had. |

What kind of person decides to actually take the time to take a picture of something like that right after it happens?
I think I'd be more worried about, y'know, stuff like calling 911, getting it bandaged up, etc. But that's just me. |
well, I can see the shower head real fuckin clearly...
Hope he gets to use them fingers again... Okay, its a sink. |
I was going to take a picture of the paper cut I got earlier, but I was jumping up and down and screaming too much to hold the camera steady.
They make a table saw that will stop fast enough to be safe when it contacts human flesh
Gat dang!
I worked at a motorcycle builder last summer where a guy chopped his hand right off. My friend had to pick it up and escort him to the front to call 911. Needless to say, he didn't return. |
Pssst--read my post just above yours. |
I've seen worse. When I did my rotation in the ER for my EMT course, there was a Mexican day-laborer who cut off his pinky and thumb, with a big gouge through the palm in between.
The nurse told me I was the only guy available, so I should glove up and help him take a piss. Sorry, but I don't do that. I unbuttoned him and gave him the bottle. Covered him with a blanket when he was done. Not my problem. |
At a plant where I worked I saw a guy touch some 440v stuff (switch box on a shear) with a screw driver. The voltage went right thru him without a hitch until it exited his body thru the opposite hand. Blew out some finger tips very similar to the pics here. Except the were half cartorized (sp?) i.e., burnt closed.

I've been doing woodwork and trim all week, thank your friend for the safety reminder
Well you gotta give me a little credit....you only beat me by 19 seconds. |

He lives way out in the boonies of N. Az. He took a couple of pics while waiting for the ambulance. |
nasty. i don't know what it is about table saws, but they actually scare me. |
FWIW, the most dangerous piece of woodworking equipment is a shaper.

LOOKS LIKE A JOB FOR>>>>>>>http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f205/chondrokeeper04/d1a33c58.jpg

I'm a relative beginner--what's a "shaper?" |
( followed by the ENGINE LATHE and the MILL..... and the BENCH GRINDER ) and the interlock defeated industrial laser can be smelly when you take a power shot to the 'fro..... oh....ELECTRICTY.....that one's a bitch!!! box cutters...... framing hammers....OWWWWWW |
Here is a video of a guy actually putting his finger thru a saw
video here |
Big +1 The nastiest shop accident I've witnessed involved a shaper. I've had a few close-calls with them, myself. |

that sawstop ting is cool- spendy
IBTHSIANF In Before The How Spendy Is A New Finger group... |
Think of it as an overgrown router table on steroids...with an antisocial attitude thrown in for kicks. |
Sorry, that sucks for him. I chewed through my left ring finger from the very end through down to the first knuckle (the one closest to my hand), I kinda wish I had a camera phone to take a pic. The only long term problems I have are other than the lack of movement in the tip, a moderate amount of chronic pain due to the tendon damage. FWIW this was about 3 years ago and his fingers look exactly like mine did.

Ah, thanks. I'm getting ready to buy a router table shortly. I was hoping it would be safer than clamping the wood and routing by hand. I have a great deal of finish work to do on my cabin that involves the use of a router. I sure do enjoy the various things you can do with one though. I am terrified of that little bit spinning at 15,000 RPM. |

Buy a table that will allow you to easily replace the top with your own custom-made tops.
You will eventually want to make application-specific tops with holes and slots drilled for stops and such for shaping specific things. Oh, and push sticks and featherboards are your friend. |
You wanna come over and play with my tannerite football. |
Most currently available router tables have safety features and bit guards. Think of it like reloading with a pistol powder you can double charge. Concentrate on the business at hand, and feed in the right direction. |

at the dental school we have this big daimond grit wheel that we use to trim plaster models. I watched a buddy of mine press his finger right into it...and grind away about half the tip of his finger before even realizing it.
made me a little queasy |
I hate using the table saw at work ! One time I had a kick back and the piece of plastic shot at my hand at like a 100 miles an hour and hurt for like a week.
Not to be pouring salt on that wound; but I bet he won't do it again. Now will he?
The ends of your fingers are the most sensitive areas of your body, second only to your battle pants galactica.
That has GOT to hurt like a fucking bitch. |
Actually not too bad for what the table saw can do to you. Especially the guys who keep the blade all the way up no matter the thickness they are cutting. |
Shapers are no joke. Ripping with a radial arm saw can be dangerous as hell also. |
