Thanks to everyone that gave me input on what mountain bikes to check out.  I looked at 8 different shops, various models, and found a swinging deal on the following bike.  So far, I like it.

2005 Specialized Enduro Expert

PS:  Yes, for an extra $32.50, it even came with an MRP.

Very nice!

The S-Works Epic is at the very top of a very short list for my next mountain bike.

Now get out and get some miles on that thing

Thanks...and yeah, I came close to getting an S-Works, but $4 -$5k was just too steep.  I bought a bike for my Daughter at the same time, so I dented the bank account enough for a while.

Been on a few rides already...and as soon as the torrential rains stop, I'll be out peddling hard!

Nice Santa Cruz JFP!

What model is that?

What's the scoop on those 2.6" tires?  The tires that came on my bike suck...

Nice rides there; no pics of my new one yet.

Just upgraded the 14 y/o hardtail to an '05 FSR comp 100 disc. After 8 years off a bike, it's like another whole world. Hydraulic disc brakes, lockout F/R suspension, actually fits my body, yadda yadda - love it even if it's nowhere near those $4k bikes.  It's still a lot of bike for $1500 out the door!

Now time to learn riding again - it's different being taller, (much) heavier, and (much more) out of shape.

noice Bullet you have there,  I notice you appear to have a free floating rear brake, who made that rig?

It's a Brake Therapy, with a Hadley rear hub, with a chromoly thru bolt axle.

It makes a ton of difference, high speed lockup chatter from braking bumps is GONE. Rear wheel is just glued to the ground under braking conditions.
