That video reminded me of a question I have -- what's name of those firearms that look like huge shotguns on row boats used to hunt waterfowl? I'd love to see video of one of those firing offf.

Ok I hadf to look up what exactly a 4-bore was...

One pound of lead @ 1400 FPS.

Saw a 4 bore rifle at the Indy 1500 show. The size of the cartridge was immense! These were used for elephant and other large game in the early 1900's. As a side note the same guy had a side by side 600 nitro or .375 H&H can't remember which bolt action. Both had price tage in the high 5 digit range!

Never stand close to someone shooting. That had to hurt!

I had the misfortune of get to close to the scope on my 336 Marlin put a gash in my eyebrow.

Did that with a .50 that had a scope with not enough eye relief.

No stiches necessary, but still bled too much.

that would be a punt gun, they also shot them from land, braced on the ground. They came in some god awefull large sizes, 0 bore and bigger, some of them were refrenced in pounds.

The loads for punt guns were often done in "so many pounds of powder" and "so many pounds of shot"

Between punt guns and battery guns market hunters decimated the numbers of waterfowl in the late 19th and early 20th century.

Hunting with put guns, battery guns, live decoys, or sink boxes became illeagle in 1913, with the first migratory bird laws. Those laws were than incorporated into the migratory bird treaty ( with great britan) in 1918, effectivly putting market hunters out of business.

Some people in britan still shoot 0 bores, i remember reading an article a few years ago, im sure there is footage somewhere on the net if your interested enough.

I have seen a punt gun fired, at a D.U. event back home in michigan, the damn thing is like a cannon.

Black powder...

If you enlarge the video a bit and step through it frame by frame; it looks like the shooter broke his collarbone, right middle finger and split his lip (or maybe lost some teeth). There’s blood spray all over his shirt shortly after he lets go of the gun and it don’t look like that shoulder is doing so well. His fingers are also bent wrong.

I’m guessing that the blood everywhere might have something to do with why the old guy forgot all about being konked in the head.
