Use to have a USPT, a 1911, and a Walther P99 in 40 S&W. All were good reliable, quality guns.

But now I only own a G17 and a Ruger Mark I .22

They get the job done.

My XD9 and my Delta Gold Cup (only pistols I own).

Shot a .40 Sig 229, and it was really nice.

Well, since you asked about "favorite" pistols, and not necessarily the best for defense....

I have a Colt Gold Cup .45 ACP that is an amazingly accurate pistol.  If I do my part, it will simply rag out one ragged hole in the target.  I shoot my reloads of 200 grain lead SWC bullets over a light charge of WW-231 powder.

It is a pleasure to shoot.

Almost all kinds (with obvious exceptions like high points, jennings, etc.)... but especially:

HK's
SIG's
quality/custom 1911's
Beretta M9
FN/Browning High Power
Makarov
CZ
Glocks

Don't be hatin'

My 1911A1 is increidbly reliable.  The unreliable ones are the fancy-schamncy moderns ones with their high prices tags and need to be "tuned" and tweaked and whatnot.

A regular 1911A1 - preferably USGI - is incredibly reliable.  The PROBLEM with it in my mind is purely the limited magazine capacity.  If someone insists on .45, the Glock 21 has almost twice the capacity.

Good Joke . I hear there is a new movie coming out. Its called the Kaboominator. Bout a guy that goes to some plastic pistol that keeps blowing up and killing it's owners.

DK is right tho. My older, and plain jane 1911s run perfectly fine. My newer one's with cast parts are nowhere as reliable. Down to one left. All my others are as God and JMB intended.

I own or have owned

Beretta 92f
Sig220
S&W model 10
Ruger sp101
Various glocks ranging from 9mm to .40 cal
XD9

And I would say that I havent really had any problems with any of them. But I keep my guns really clean.

Learn the manual of arms for each gun. Then go rent some at a range (even if you have to drive an hour to do it. It's better to spend the time than end up with a gun you aren't fond of.)

Then buy watcha like

I love my Glocks. I carry a Glock 26 as my daily carry, and I just replaced my Sig 226 with a Glock 19 for work.

I'll go ahead and second, or third, or twenty-fifth, the 1911.

H&K USP is good, but not if you're used to shooting a 1911.  To me, at least.

Walther PPK

I've been DYING to shoot a beretta 92.  Never have!

I tell ya'.. just a couple of days ago I picked up my first Hi Power.  It's an FN MkIII in .40 and even though I haven't had it out to the range yet, I'm liking the heck out of it.

Otherwise, I enjoy my Walther P99 .40, my 1911s, and then there is my .357 Blackhawk that I don't shoot nearly enough.  Also, while not a joy to shoot, I like my Taurus M444 Ultralite for those days I want to made to write hot checks.
