[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Is this normal for a diesel motor its age?

It's burning about 1/2 quart of oil every 600 miles. It's a 82' German 4 cylinder diesel (non-turbo) with 200K+ miles on it. All my driving is up and down the freeway.

Considering the mileage on the engine (and the fact that it's not a heavy-duty diesel), 1 quart in 1200 miles doesn't sound excessive.

Hmmmm, My guess is that it is leaking more than you think. All the old diesels I deal with are usually covered in oil leaks.

Time tore-ring it and replace the cylinder walls.

But that usage is OK
