Headers, bigger carb, NOS?

A Windows reinstall would probably do wonders.

Maxing out the memory is the cheapest and easiest way to get a noticeable speed boost.

I've had this laptop for about 3 years now, but lately it seems to be dragging.  I do daily spyware scans as well as frequent disk cleanups and defragments.  Anything else I can do?

Double your clock speed. Plug in to 220v.

I just ditched all Norton products off my computer.  Did a wonder.

Otherwise, you can save off all your important files, and do a complete format & reinstall.

I have 25gb left out of 40.

I think I'm maxed out at 1g of ram.

Can I reinstall windows without having to back everything up?  If I run the utility for transferring to a new computer, what exactly does it save?

What would I be looking for in msconfig?

How many items do you have in your system tray (lower right hand corner of screen next to clock)?

We have found one way to get them running faster is to upgrade the hard drive to a 7200rpm model.  The older 5400rpm drives really suck.

That, and an XP reinstall made mine seem like a brand new machine.

But, mine was not voluntary.  The HD crapped out one day.

1 gig of ram and 25 gig free hard drive space I doubt you need hardware upgrades.  A faster hard drive might help a little, but not much.

What software are you running?  Ditch anything by Norton, especially antivirus.  Format and reinstall Windows if that doesnt solve the problem.
