That no more represents the beliefs or policy of the Catholic church than Al Sharpton represents the average protesant.

I am Catholic, a member of the Dallas Diocese. Last week on Dallas talk radio, I heard the Bishop of the Dallas Diocese being interviewed by Greg Knapp on KLIF.
The Bishop was discussing his opposition to the immigration reform bills pending, whining the usual talking points of how it'd be a felony to "help" immigrants, and repeating the Republican talking points about amnesty, etc.
The good Bishop even went so far as to blame the United States for the problem of illegals, intimating that because US immigration policys are so tough the illegals are forced to break the law.
I listened as long as I could to the Bishop's bullshit, and called the station to voice my opinion. I actually got on the air, and told Mr Knapp, the host of the show, that as a Dallas Catholic the Bishop does not speak for me. Mr Knapp acknowledged my call, and went on to the next caller, but I had plenty more to say.
I wanted to say that I hoped the Bishop recognized Church law and doctrine, and since he obviously didn't believe in United States law I hoped he follows Church law. I wanted to say that I didn't believe the Bishops talking points at all, and I suspect the bottom line is MONEY; the Bishop recognizes that most of the illegals are Catholic and perhaps he hopes the waves of illegals will drop a few extra coins in the collection basket.
I also wanted to tell the talk show host that with a heavy heart I'm now questioning my religion.
For the poster that said the Catholic church as a whole doesn't oppose immigration reform, I hate to have to advise you that the official position of the Council of Catholic Bishops is to oppose immigration reform.
I blame the Bush administration for a lot of this problem, as I type there's a full blown protest in downtown Dallas over immigration reform.
I look at the Bush administration with the same contempt and disgust as I viewed the Clinton administration.
I also agree, with sadness and trepidation, that the Catholic church should lose it's 503 tax exemption for becoming a partisan political player.
