Both had similar beginnings. They both had similar middles. The only difference is that Cash died of old age and Presley just plain died.
I've grown quite fond of Cash's library over the last few months. |
Elvis was a much better showman.
I like Johnny Cash but I can't understand why he is referred to as a "legend". |
because he started out in the 50's with Elvis and has several platnium records....thats pretty much legend status. |
Can't compare them on those terms.
Elvis was an entertainer, Cash was an artist. Elvis performed, Cash created (for the most part). Both gifted, but Cash wins if you're talking about his talent as a creator. |
So has the rest of the friggin world. What's with this revival of Johnny Cash worship? I voted for Elvis by the way. |
JC wrote a few songs, EP wrote none, afaik. JC was the better artist, though Elvis was a better entertainer.
Elvis has higher "Legend" status, plus he is surviving a whole lot longer. |
Walk the Line I was never a huge fan of Cash, but I grabbed American IV on a lark at the library and really liked what I heard. |
Elvis kind of sucked, whereas Cash was consistently good throughout his career.
I was so excited when I saw a movie about Cash was coming out. I grew up on that music and thought it was a pretty good movie.
Always liked Johnny Cash, never cared much for Elvis the Pelvis.
Already stated. Elvis didn't write anything, he just performed what others wrote. Cash wrote some of his own stuff. I'll always think artists that perform their own works are better than those who perform something someone else wrote.
Best Artist. JC.
Best Performer. Elvis. There is a difference. jj |
Elvis was a soldier in the Army, while Cash was only in the Air Force. Presley wins! |
At least JC was a real enlisted man, whereas EP was purely a showpiece.
That said, Cash all the way. He was a better all around musician, wrote, played, sung. Elvis was just too commercial. |
I would say both were pioneers in the music industry though my vote goes to Cash. |
Go back to your 50cent. I like some of Elvis's stuff, but Johnny Cash wrote more and better songs. Not to mention cover anything from gospel to Nine Inch Nails and make it sound authentic (and even better than the original in many cases). |
Anything that you listen to = Your precious spice girls may be cool to you, but they arent even in the same league as Johnny Cash or Elvis. |
Cash was one man largely in control of his own destiny. Elvis was an institution. He gave up control and his institution was driven into the ground by greedy hangers on. Between the two of them, as a singer songwriter, Cash is king. As a performer, Elvis reigns. |
The man in black takes another vote......... i listen to his music ALL THE TIME.
i am listening to A boy named sue right now.............. 92 cash songs on itunes in my collection. |
I'm sorry, Johnny Cash hands down.
Elvis was a great showman, and had alot of popularity, But just listen to "The Man comes around" contest done. Plus JC wrote what he wanted. "Cocaine Blues" definately wasn't hit material, but that song is great. "Woke up in the morning and I grabbed that gun, took a shot of cocaine and away I run" |
Both were great, with songs that transcend time.
I used to like more Elvis songs... Then I got into the Man in Black. Now I think they're tied. |
Couldn't have said it better. I admire Cash more because he created what he sold. Elvis just danced and sang what others created. |
Cash enlisted in the Air Force. Presley was drafted. That counts for something, although both are worthy of respect. |
I can listen to most of Johnny Cash's work and like it. The same can't be said for Elvis.
+1 and neither were good actors. Cash only slightly better. |
Not a big fan of either one, but Elvis put on a good concert. I never saw Johnny Cash in person, so I can't compare the two.
My mom is a major Elvis fan, and just to piss her off I told her that Flaming Star was the best movie Elvis ever made. When she smiled real big and asked why I liked that one best, I said "Because he dies at the end!" |
Johhny Cash was and is THE MAN!
LIstened to his stuff for as long as I can remember.. The guy has presence.. Plus he looked like he could knock your teeth out.. |
Johnny Cash never performed while wearing sequined jumpsuits.
Advantage Cash. |
johnny cash died with honor as a legend
elvis died a shell of his former self in possibly the most shameful manner possible |
Elvis didn't look tough but he was a 3rd degree black-belt in Karate. FYI |
This is comparing apples to oranges! Elvis for the most part=rock n roll. Johnny Cash= good country. BTW,Elvis is not dead, he is an Army Gen in Germany,I saw his pics in National Lampoon.
I had to vote for Elvis, but I agree with those who said that you can't compare the two.
Both were incredibly talented and are well deserving of the legend status. |
I voted cash....
but Elvis had his own shooting range in his basement.... |
