The martial arts on the ground is excellent, but the running along the tree-tops is just silly.  Bruce Lee was leading martial arts movies towards realism, and when he died, they regressed to that silly jumping from rooftop to rooftop wire nonsense.

I actually thought the story of Hero was 100X better than the stuid ass crouching tiger-hidden lameness.  I am not normally a martial art movie fan, btw.

It's a cultural thing. That's just the way they picture action/fantasy. It's the Chinese version of tying a fire hose around your waist and jumping off a building right as it explodes.

The plot of Hero was pretty good--it's the FX that turned me off.

I never liked Crouching tiger, but I loved Hero.

"Hero" was what every "Kung-Fu Theater" show of my childhood wished it could be.

Hero was awesome.

Crouching Tiger put me to sleep.

Wierd.

Just so you "get it" it is a representation of classic Chinese fairy tales. It was NOT meant to be realistic anymore than the movie "Superman."

What I personally think hurts martial arts films more than anything is that Matrix fucking horseshit.

Jet Li is an incredible martial artist but you'd never know it will all the goofy fucking effects.

And I have a high tolerance for effects, I love Shaw Bros. movies for example.

Fuck....I didn't know they were on wires.

Don't even tell me porn chicks aren't really having orgasms, or I'll go mental.

Why did I have to read this?

It's Chinese fantasy/fairy tales just like Camelot with it's wizards and dragons.

You need to watch more HK style Kung fu.
I did think CTHD was pretty boring though

I've never seen the movie, only the commercials. But whenever I want to complain about the excessive stupidity of special effects and fighting in movies, I always mention 'Hidden Tiger Dragon".  It made sense in the Matrix, but everywhere else it's lame.

I didn't like CTHD, but i loved Hero, i thought it was a very good plot with a nice twist. As for the effects, they're supposed to be that way. Kinda like the old school "Kung-fu theater" movies.

I haven't seen it.  Is is better or worse than "Kong POW!  Enter the Fist" ?

I just saw CTHD about a week ago.
It is a beautiful movie! The cinematography and the photography are truelly awesome and even inspiring.

The actual movie, the plot line and the "effects" were horrible and dissapointing. I would love to watch it again, with the sound muted.

Worse of course. Kung Pow! fucking rules. Evil Betty and "Hammer Time"? That's good shit right there.

Right - that's how I looked at it.

Think of the characters in CTHD as legends. Just like Paul Bunyan.

FWIW I think it's a beautiful movie. I have it on DVD.

In Chinese mythology flying was a ability some Grand Masters possessed. There is a legend that there was a Chinese tribe of sorts that lived on a Mountain top .This tribe was supposed to have been destroyed down to its last three(I beleieve ) members who ,as the opposing Army closed in on them simply flew away.To rebuild there tribe elsewhere.

I was not impressed with CTHD, but Hero was a beautiful movie. The use of color was unbelievable.

I did not pay much attention to the plot.

The Matrix "Bullet time" effects have one place they belong. In the freakin' Matrix! The one that pissed me off was Charlies Angels

Nothing...and I mean NOTHING beats "Shogun Assassin" for all time best martial arts flick.

It is one of the greatest things ever put on film.

I was disappointed as hell when I saw CTHD in the theater.  I was expecting one of the best martial arts movies of all time.  What I got was a date movie that would probably be pretty good while under the influence of recreational plantlife.  It could be a good movie, but I was just looking forward to a completely different flick.
