2 door regular cab?
2 door extended cab? 4 door? Long bed? Short bed? 4 wheel drive? 2 Wheel drive? Off road or pavement only? ETA whoops I see you already said 4x4 so one question answered anyway. Also some may offer military veterans a small rebate so shop around even after you pick the model you want. |

Beats me. Depends what you want to do with it. I bought the new powerwagon. Comes from the factory with all the good offroad stuff. (4.56 gears, front/rear lockers, winch, bilstiens, full skidplates, tall tires, seperate oil/trans coolers, ect. I've gone away from 1/2 ton IFS trucks. |

good thinking. I will also add that if you buy a foreign truck you ARE supporting asia moor than america. I cannot believe that people can't get it through their head that just because the foreign makers have plants in the US that provide some houorly jobs to some americans, the PROFITS STILL GO TO ASIA.

It's obvious which truck I chose...
If you're on a budget, the F-150 is the only regular cab out there that still has four doors. (No seats behind the front seats, just storage space.) But, it's enough room to fit two twelve inch subwoofers, an amp, and my rifle. What more could I ask for? Thats just my experience.... |

Words cannot describe how happy I've been with my '99 GMC Sierra. 180,000+ touble free miles. That would be my reccomendation to anyone looking for a full size truck.

Sorry, I should have been more clear:
4x4 4 door ( I want to be able to put adults in the back) either short or long bed Mainly paved road, but weekend offroad for camping/hunting. I like the looks of the titan, but Nissan is not on the overseas military purchase programs. Dodge is, but the mega cabs don't have much ground clearance. (I'd at least like 10 inches...no jokes...I know how you guys think!  )

Go diesel--they last twice as long as gas engines.
Both Dodge and Ford have excellent diesle engines in their P/Us nowadays. I would stay away from Chevy though. Go at least 3/4 ton and get the 4 wheel drive option--if you plan on doing any off road or winter type driving. I drive a 2003 Ford F250 Super crew with the 6.0 diesel and I love it. pato |

I recommend diesels, but they command stiff $$$ so you have to decide if the cost is worth it. Having said that:
1. Ford makes the best heavy pickup, followed by Dodge, followed by GM. This is just the pickup (everything but the engine and transmission). 2. The Dodge has the best diesel in a heavy pickup (Cummins), followed by GM (Duramax), followed by Ford (6.0L Powerstroke). The 6.0L has had many, many issues since its introduction in '03, some of those issues are resolved now. 3. GM has the best automatic in a heavy pickup (Allison), followed by Ford (Torqueshift), followed by Dodge (48re). None of them are bad choices, however. I would recommend the Ford Super Duty, then the Dodge 3500, then the GM offerings last. |

Again, that depends on what he's going to do with it. I know on the Dodge the Cummings is $5-6K more, not to mention that it weighs 1000 lbs. (vs 485 lbs for the 5.7) I don't know about the Ford or Chevy. If you don't tow or haul alot of stuff, it's kind of hard to justify the up front cost. The only thing I can add is if you want 4 wheel drive get the one with the lever you pull, not the push button crap. |

I may tow a boat or camper on occasion, but I don't think I need a deisel.
What are the major 3/4 ton trucks? What is the major diff between the Ram 1500 and the 2500 they seem the same on the website. (I really am a truck newb!) |

Night and day.  The 2500-3500 is twice the truck compared to the 1500, especially in the 3rd gen 4x4. They killed the 1500 when they went to IFS. The heavier trucks still have a SFA, 10.5 or 11" rear diff, 9.25 front. (The oil burner and the power wagon have even heavier axle shafts). Better steering gear and (for the first time), some of the best brakes going. (The gen 2 brakes sucked) |

What's your towing requirement?
5000 or 8500 pounds? Big difference and the higher it is the fewer and fewer trucks that are rated that high. |

Only buy a Nissan if you enjoy losing nearly 50% of the truck's resale in the first 2 years. I've seen this many times. People will buy a Nissan and look to trade it in within the first few years only to find out that they're way upside down when it comes to payments.
I strongly advise to stay away from them unless it's going to be a truck that you plan to hold onto for a long long long long time and you don't care about the resale. |

The nissan Titan has known problems, as does the SUV based on it. The big 3 still make pretty damn good full size P-ups.

I (being heavily biased) recommend the Dodge. Last I looked, there is a veteran's purchase program, but I'll go you one better. PM me and we can talk. Definitely go with the switched 4x4 control, way nicer and less fragile than jamming the selector sleeve yourself, plus, no linkage to fail.

The Japs don't make a real full size truck. Buy American! I own nothing but chevy's and have had the best of luck with them. Go to the dieselplace.com for truck info.

In a nutshell...
Gas: Ford: 5.4L is a good motor but they are pushing it to it's limit just to get 300hp out of it. Chevy: 5.3L is a good motor, good power, proven. Dodge: 5.7L Hemi... good for racing, not so good for towing. I've had 2 of 'em. Titan: 5.6L... awesome power, drives good. Reliability is as of yet unproven. Tundra: 4.7L puts out power quite a bit below the competition. Styling is old, current truck at end of life. Good toyota dependability and a stout truck. Diesel: Ford: Used 7.3L, great engine. Current 6.0L, crap engine, and being replaced asap by Ford as I understand it. Chevy: Duramax, good engine, cr*ppy 10 year old interior styling until the new ones get here. Great auto trannies though. Dodge: Cummins 5.9L. Long tried and true proven design. Most reputable of the big 3. 350K minimum life estimate. 48RE automatic... much better than the older Dodge trannies by far. With that said, I drive a 2006 Dodge Cummins 4x4 2500 w/ the 48RE. Pushing about 390hp/750tq with a simple box. Couldn't be happier. |

The only one I've driven was the Nissan (which I liked) (both my 300ZX's have over 150k with no problems) and the reason I was expanding my search was the military overseas purchase programs. It includes Ford, Dodge. GMC just withdrew their participation.
