Paid a college girl $4000 to have group sex. She then files rape charges. On the local FOX affiliate they had a clip of a Sacramento PD detective (a woman FWIW) saying at the time of the arrest that it was one of the most heinous sex crimes she had ever investigated.

Whoops! Turns out the guys had videoed the whole thing and the girl was willing participant. Charges dropped after they spent THREE WEEKS in jail.

A 19-year-woman who claimed she was raped by four men has recanted her allegations. All charges have been dropped against two men in custody and warrants have been rescinded for three others also accused.

On Tuesday, an attorney for one of the suspects presented Sacramento police detectives with evidence refuting the victim's claims. The attorney had several cell phone video clips and a CD showing the alleged victim and alleged suspects participating in what appeared to be consensual sex acts. It was revealed the woman had received $4,000 for her part.

Today, upon questioning by detectives, the woman recanted her charges.

"Based on my review of that tape and further discussions we had with the victim, alleged victim this morning, it's my belief that we needed to dismiss this case," said Deputy District Attorney Noah Phillips.

According to police, the victim was acquainted with 21-year-old Chiem Saechao, one of the men in custody. She said he invited her to his apartment on February 6 near 4th Avenue and the 65th Expressway. Once there, she told police investigators four men repeatedly raped her and took turns restraining her. She also said there was a 15-year-old boy present who watched. She told detectives she managed to leave the apartment early the next afternoon. Later that day, she reported the alleged incident to police.

Police arrested Saechao and 25-year-old Sarn Saechao more than three weeks ago. This afternoon, the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office dropped all charges in the case against them.

I have long been of the opinion that when someone knowingly files false charges against someone which are proven to be untrue, the accuser should be sentenced to the same length of time the accused would have recieved if they had been convicted. That would cut out a ton of this shit from happening.

She should be sentanced to what the boys would have gotten. I think it should work like that for lawsuits also, if you claim is found to be baseless and you were just trying to get money you should have to pay what you were lookin to get. This wouldn't apply to lawsuits that are just lost for one reason or another.

Only problem with that otherwise good idea is then you create a situation where a genuine rape victim (especially in cases of acquantance rape) might be hesitant to file charges. I don't think there is an easy answer even though I agree with what you are saying.
