Quoted: The article is from 2004. SA has had so much trouble trying to implement their unbelievably stupid new gun laws (begun in July 2005) that they have now postponed compliance until 2009. Far too much trouble to actually try and tackle the real issues for crime and such, you know.

Some incorrect statements re; SA gun laws.
I agree with an earlier statement re: politiks. The more advanced a country is, the more people can become fat and lazy, the more you'll run into gun control issues. Basically politicians like to sit around and come up with ways to justify their existence and to control the filthy masses more effectively.

JoHan;
I have some very good friends in SA who are members...even officers...of SAGA, and also some who are accredited Firearms Officers as well as LEOs. They will tell you that NO ONE really knows WTF is going on with the new law and that the whole thing is one big stinking mess so far as private ownership and licensing is concerned. (The government HAS managed to do one thing they set out to do and that is to eliminate most gun dealers there)
I did, in fact, shorten the details on my comment as they would take a book to publish (as I am sure you realize) but the fact is that the last "final word" (so far) on the act is also on the SAGA site...
"Firearms licenses issued under the repealed Arms and Ammunition Act, 1969, will cease to be valid on 30 June, 2009/"
Where it goes from there is snyone's guess.
