Matthew being from GA you should know better than to think that sawed off shotguns are illegal.

I thought a southerner would know better.

Here is a link to a manuf./dealer from you own state. Check his website.

Goto products then other products. Contact Kevin and he can set you up with any shotgun in any barrel length you want assuming you are over 21yrs of age.

They are legal in GA.  Advanced Armament sells them, you need to fill out the paperwork for an AOW pay your $5 and viola you have a shotgun that is totally worthless beyound 25 feet!! congrats!!!

I sit corrected then. I always thought there law which states shotgun barrels had to be x inches long. I will have to do some home work then. I know I should be flogged for  not owning a shotgun also. My friends keep hounding me to get one. I like the Bennelli M190. I will see if I can find a website with Georgia's gun laws. I spent most of my life in Florida I will look at their laws also.

Joe Black I already put my foot in my mouth. I have thick skin though and can admit my faults.

I left briefly and did some research on Georgia Gun Laws.

Code Section 16-11-124

Possession of a sawed-off shotgun, sawed-off rifle, machine gun, dangerous weapon( I thought all weapons were dangerous) , or silencer by person who is authorized  to possess the same because he has registered the sawed-0ff shotgun, sawed-off rifle, machine gun, dangerous weapon, or silencer in accordance with the dictates of the National Firearms Act, 68A Stat. 725 .

Beagles it's not a state thing. The AOW Any Other Weapon is not a shotgun as you stated and transfers on the $5 tax.

A sawed off shotgun is a shotgun and transfers on a $200 tax.

This is federal and does not depend upon state.

AOW must be a factory pistol gripped shotgun

Sawed off Shotgun starts as a stocked shotgun and gets cut down.

So Matt now that you are educated which one trips your fancy?  You ordered one up yet?

So far David, I like the third one down in your first post and the middle one in Beagles747. Looks like a folding forward pistol grip on it. Joe black we are not even. I'm still trying to get a few toes out of my mouth. Those would be great for anti-carjacking or by bedside. I have always been a auto pistol and semi-auto rifle kind of person. I lack a lot of knowledge in revolvers and shotguns.

Matt you could probably pick one like #3 in my post for around $350 and will transfer for the $5 tax. That one was made by Cobray SWD before they went kaput. Based upon a Mosberg 500 the most common AOW frame used.

The other you mentioned is a Serbu Shorty avail in 12ga or 20ga with the fold pistol grip.
More money than the 12" guns cause they are a lot more work to make/convert. A bit over $600 if I remember right. It only holds 2+1 shells.

Most Short shotguns are pump actions. AOWs can not have a shoulder stock and most auto shotguns have a recoil spring going into the stock. Gas operated shotguns don't work as well with shorter barrels less back pressure to work the gas system. There are custom exceptions of course.

Here is another picture of a Serbu Shorty for you viewing pleasure. Friend included in picture for proper size orientation.

Well I have learned a few things on this subject this morning. Serbu, well I have a good friend whose brother does some work for Serbu. This guy is great with metal work. He built a versa-pod adapter to go on a pre-ban Benelli M1 Tactical. Kind of got to see it to believe it.

Ahem...guys...for shotguns the legal length for shotgun barrels starts at 18" unless you possess a AOW or SBR license. For rifles it's 16" without a special license.[:D]
