I currently have a Dimage XG LINK.

Pretty nice but looking to upgrade.

Must use SD cards

What do you guys recommend in the $150-250 range, same general size?

Of the ones that fit the above, do any have a manual focus option?

I really like this type of form factor and understand that it will limit me in certain respects, but thats OK given the portability

thanks,
Dan

After extensive research, I selected the Canon A520 for around $150 a few months back.  The A620 is the higher resolution model.

From what I have gathered, this series from Canon is hard to beat for the money.  It's probably what I will go with even if I get a small camera, even though I am a Nikon guy in general...

Myself and several others here have the Canon SD400. Its a great compact camera that takes really nice shots. I think you can find them for around $300 maybe less.

My Dimage does Movie recording (with sound) at 15fps and 30fps.

Do these Exilims do 30fps?  The specs I've found so far only say image size.

Canon S2is superzoom. A fistful of tools built in. Or wait until May for the S3is.

I scored a Kodak Easyshare DX7590 last October for a little less than $300.  They're out of production now in favor of a new model, so prices may have gone down.

Some good stuff I like about it

SLR-like format
10x optical zoom (I think 2x digital on top of that)
5 Megapixel
SD card
LiIon battery (lasts long enough to take about 250-300 pictures)
Lots of preset modes that work generally pretty well
FULL manual mode, one setting that saves custom settings
Timer
Macro
Burst
Video

The only things I don't dig about it:

Takes a while to 'startup' when the memory card has more pictures on it.  (Workaround: use several smaller cards and swap them out.  Minor inconvenience)
Video is in MOV format (download and use the Quicktime Alternative if you don't want to use Quicktime)

Other bonuses

Extra batteries are cheap.  SD memory is coming way down in price.  Lenses, adapters and filters are available.

I dig it.

I've got the DiMage Z2, and I love it, but I haven't yet put in the time to learn how to use the functions. We leave it on Auto and take what we get.

I have the Minolta Diimage Z1 and I HATE IT. Maybe its like other digital cameras but it doesn't auto focus in low light situations, I don't mean action shots either. I mean just still pics. I wouldn't buy it again.
