Where I live, I either have Dial-Up, or wireless DSL (1MB for $60 a month + like $300 install/equipment). I was looking into a data plan from Alltel that would either use my phone or a PCMCIA card with a PCI adapter and get there plan that was 400K-700K with a burst of 2.4MB. Main issue I was curious about was lag/ping time? I wanna play BF2 at home and frankly dial-up doesnt cut it.

Thanks in advance for your help/info....

Using your phone as a modem is easy, dont need to upgrade unless your phone is old as hell.  Im wanting much faster speeds than using the phone just as a modem.

Never going to work. first the lag is around 200-500 or so which is fine for browsing but sucks for games. Then your going to burn through 1mg in about an hour of game play. There is a reason that it requires BB to play online. Sorry

Edit: I "can" play it through my cell as the modem, but its spotty at best, but on a small map, I DID get 1 kill. LOL!!

You need a data cable and drivers. Create a dial-up connection via windows, use any user/pass and dial the  number #777. Uses minutes so be carefull.

You have to be able to connect it to your PC, if your gonna use it as a modem for it. Some can do it Bluetooth as well.

Data cables are cheap though.

Having used a wireless ISP (Sprint), I would say that the chances are pretty slim that it will work well with FPS games or VPN.

If they require a contract with a really hefty bailout fee... fugetaboutit. It will suck.

If there's no contract involved give it a shot.

Yeah you can use it for the net but its $40 on top of the Vision access charge to use the phone as a modem. Otherwise when you get into the Gigabite range of usage it'll red flag and yer busted. Some people have been getting hit with huge data usage charges to their account, accounts dropped etc.
I got unlimited Vision for free thru the SERO plan.
You can find more on both at
