Thin cut it on a bandsaw- 1/8th inch or so and bond it to a substrate.

Seriously good find.
We have a bunch of timbers that are probably in the 15-18' length and are 12 inches square that people have told me are worth a couple of thousand $ a piece. They look like firewood to me, but hey, what do I know. |

Bubinga, I just like saying it.
I saw a guy on a DIY show (maybe This Old House, but not Norm) who made an incredibly ornate mirror frame out of Bubinga. It seems like that might be a waste with the pieces you have. Make the wife an amazing looking butcher block cutting table. Cut the long pieces into 2 inch strips to get that striped look and run them through a jointer for a perfect fit. Bubinga

Slice the entire board to 1" thick. Take both "matching" slices and "bookmatch" them for the opposing grain look. Edge the entire 40" x 14 foot table with ebony. (or some other reallydark wood)
Then send some GOOD pics to Fine Woodworking magazine. Then put it on eBay. Then it's up to you. Congratulations. Stay safe |

Don't cut it up! Unless you have a specific project in mind, I would consider contacting a local "fine woodworking" shop, wood supplier or lumberyard to see if someone there is interested in taking it off your hands for a nice profit. Ebay is a good option, too!

I snagged a nice piece of myrtle wood a couple of years ago and made a coffee table out of it. It was about 6' long, almost 18" wide and about 3 1/4" thick, with bark on some of the edges. I paid $250 and then about that much more to have a cabinet shop make it into a table for me. VERY beautiful.
You seem to know what you have, and are appreciative of God's gift, and thoughtful of it, so I can't wait to see what you decide. Good luck!

That would make a nice bookmatched tabletop. You could do the coffee table/end tables way also. Your idea to hang on to it and do something really nice is the best way to go though. Just seeing it on stickers says good things about what you have in mind though. Gorgeous piece of wood.

Holy shit. You have at least $1,000 worth of lumber there. The massive slab would probably sell for more than usual because of its size.
I can't believe you got all that for only $175. You asshole. There are a dozen things I would build with that lumber, but as mentioned, give a lot of thought to your ideas and plan your project(s) carefully. Check out dimarks.com for some ideas. This guy makes some incredible furniture mostly out of exotic woods. What a steal.

Selling it for a profit is right out. Any money I'd make would not make me happier than making something out of it. I really like the book match table top idea. I'll keep taking pictures and post the project here as it comes together. Here's a quick shot of the grain wet...
