WASHINGTON - The U.S. Middle East policy is not in America's national interest and is motivated primarily by the country's pro-Israel lobby, according to a study published yesterday by researchers from Harvard University and the University of Chicago.

The Israel (and Taiwan) lobby have huge pull on Capitol Hill.  But what about in the White House?

What would the Haaretz paper prefer us to do?  Cater to Saudi Arabia?

We like all nations pursue our own interests on the international stage.  If those interests are sympatico with Israel, then good deal, since I obviously like them a lot more than the Islamic states.  But we've been no slouches on the behalf of Arab states too, but it has garnered us little.  They gave us 9/11 after helping in Afghanistan and routing Saddam.  So if we favor the Jews afterwards who can fault us on that?

The Sauds have their own lobby too, unlimited money behind it.

Unfortunately we need a stable middle east and that drives much of  our foreign policy.
