Get the system, but skip the monitoring.
You can have an alarm system without paying some idiots 25-30 bucks a month to call you when it goes off, and then call the police for you if you are being held at gunpoint.  System=good monitoring=HUGE ripoff/waste of money |

I use Brinks. Worked like a champ when my house was broken in. I happily send them the check for monitoring.

If you're not there it could be the difference between having your stuff stolen or not. Besides you should get a homeowner's insurance discount which negates some of the monitoring cost. |

Plus, if you opt for monitored smoke detectors, it could help out in fire situations, whether you are there or not. Personally, I like that peace of mind, but don't get suckered into high monthly charges. If the place you contact wants more than $20 a month, move on. |

Any idea where you can purchase the window contacts? The ADT guy says they cost 230 bucks for a pack of 3

$230??? Were they the wireless type or wired type? The wired type are dirt cheap. Some of the wireless ones do get a little spendy, but I didn't think $230 spendy. |

I have ADT. Its the best feeling when you are gone... Or a sleep.. or when you are told the home owners insurance dropped 20% because of it...

Find an alarm company that will not charge you "liquidated damages" or any other service fee if you cancel your monitoring contract before a set period of time. Find a company that will give the option of a 30 day cancellation. You do not want to be stuck with something you cannot cancel without a penalty if your situation changes.
Window contacts are certainly not $230.00 for a package of three. If you were to get 3 contacts installed for $230.00, that would be a good price. |
